Home consumption with fully charged battery

I've noticed our home consumption jumps to within 80% of the panel generation once the battery is fully charged on a sunny day.
This is despite our base load being low , no fridge freezer on or dryers etc, perhaps the TV on .
I've contacted Octopus and they have told me to contact you as it could be an inverter problem.
Prior to.the battery being fully charged the home consumption is between 180w and 350w , but when the battery is fully charged this jumps up to 80% of the panel generation and if the panels are generating 2kw our home consumption jumps to 1.6 kW to 1.8kw.

Chalk You got a solar water heater (iBoost type thing) or similar?

Is this a new installation? (Presumably by Octopus.)

Normally the unused solar would get exported once the battery is full. My first thought would be that perhaps the CT clamp is incorrectly fitted? (Consumption is inferred to be whatever the inverter is generating minus the measured export. If measured export is 0, the monitoring will assume it's all being consumed.)

Are you sure it’s not showing you a negative reading, I.e. an export rather than consumption/import.

The solar has nowhere else to go so it’s going out to the grid. House is consuming the same 180W and the remaining 1.8kW is being exported ?

NorfolkMustard but we are not getting the monetary return for this.

DD have emailed them and waiting for a response.

DD it is a new installation by Octopus.

DD Spoke to Octopus and they said the CT clamp could fitted wrongly, I've sent them a photo of the meter wiring.

Chalk yeah. You can be exporting without an export tariff in place, so would be giving it to the grid for free. Post up a picture here of your octopus smart meter in-home-display (IHD) when you see the scenario you’re querying and we’ll be able to see.

The smart meter IHD isn’t affected by CT clamps etc.

it is a new installation by Octopus.

I think that it's normally the installer's responsibility to sort out any problems early after an install - it would be up to them to escalate issues to GivEnergy if it looks like a hardware problem.
(And I though Octopus had a promise that they handled all problems for the first year ..?)

Tariff ? (My expectation is that it takes forever to get an mpan after a new install, but of course other regions are a lot more efficient than my own SSE.)
Who is your electricity supplier? They vary in how generous they are for export. Octopus are pretty good as is EON Next Drive. (But I'm sure there are others.)

You can use a different supplier for export Vs import, but it'such harder to get a good rate.

DD I'm with Octopus , and the givenergy tech people have identified a metering problem and Octopus are sending an engineer to solve the problem.

Chalk good luck with that. It took me nearly 3 years of moaning at Octo and 12 changes of gas and elec meters to get my smart meters to work. In the end Carla at Octopus got on the case and got a dual band comms hub(?) fitted with an antenna and it all worked instantly. I am in N Yorks and the Arqiva RF system does not seem to work very well. I think the device Carla arranged is RF and GSM
