Inverter & Battery Firmware update failed

Any idea why this Firmware failed? Seemed to be downloading fine, but then came up with the message it had failed after about 20 minutes into the update. The battery had very little charge, could that be the reason?

Could you give us some idea what kit and firmware versions you are talking about.

Just looking on the community to find BMS3017. I noticed that there are a few issues with updating. In my case, I tried updating through the portal. It failed several time. Then I noticed that the system was showing no data. I physically looked at the system and noticed that it had tripped off.???? strange?? On restarting, the main battery gives a series of rapid clicks then switches off. Battery 2 remains on.

I have spoken to technical and have been asked to do some voltage tests. First, I will try installing the update directly onto a usb and see if that works. Update to follow.....

SteveCook Sorry Steve, first time I've had to use this forum. Inverter is model GIV-HY-3.6 & Battery is GIV 102Ah 5.22kWh. (1 unit)
Inverter Firmware version is: DO.307-AO.307 & I've tried to update to DO.309-AO.309
Battery Firmware version is: 3015 & tried to update to 3017

I had something similar with a battery firmware update a while back.

Managed to get the battery back online by following this method

Assuming battery already off, then...

Shut the Inverter off fully by:
Turn off inverter AC first
Turn off PV DC (if hybrid)
Isolate DC breaker

Once Inverter is off - all lights out:
Turn battery On
Put Battery DC Isolator On

Does it click, or does it power up and stay up?

If battery stays powered up:
turn on PV isolator first (if hybrid!)
Then turn on inverter AC

Did the update start and did you get a notification that it had started?
As TX200 said, I had similar issue.
I opened the DC breakers from the inverters
Turned off my battery (9.5 has button high on RHS)
Open the consumer unit MCB feeding grid to the inverter.
Opened the breaker feeding DC from the battery to the inverter
Let the inverter fully shut down for circa 30s so all power had discharged.
Turned everything back on and the update then completed successfully.

If not, you can email GivEnergy support and they may email you the update file and ask you to to copy it to a USB stick and remove the USB that might/should be in the battery USB port and insert your USB stick. The hardest thing I found was getting the glue patch that is over the port and stick. Get a very sharp stanley knife. Good luck.

SteveCook Yes the update started & I received notification, all seemed to be going fine, then about 20 minutes into the upgrade & about 70% completed it notified me 'Firmware Update Failed'.
I'm on holiday tomorrow, so I'll try with the update again when I return. Many thanks for your help, fingers crossed it will work.

That is what mine did and the reboot (seemed) to solve it.
It did finish after the reboot though that may just be coincidence

I had similar problem last month and Giv emailed me the update files which we had to load directly onto the dongle in the battery and load it manually. However that didn't work the first time and my friendly installer came round to assist and it appeared that a cable ribbon had come loose slightly (not sure which one?) and once pushed back in it loaded fine and updated.
