I'm getting really frustrated with the amount of daily work I am having to do to get the system to behave.

I think it is something to do with asking it to hold after charge.
The effect is that it appears to accept a charge window - either automatically or manually (no errors) but it is actually ignorning it - just sits there at hold.
On the Giv Portal it shows as Timed Charge enabled with an active slot and batt to 100% yet nothing.
In the end yesterday when it did it I had to physically reboot the inverter as it would not accept a remote restart command. Then i reset the Inverter to default settings and off it goes.
It is almost as if there is a bug in the inverter software locking it out.
I have only recently started to use charge and HOLD as a feature so I think it is related to this.
This also affects transition from hold to full export - no forced discharge. Seems I have to ENABLE eco mode to kick it off even though forced discharge at 100% is showing on the GIv portal.

What I did last night was manually put it into and out of eco mode (doing this on the Giv Portal). The action of going into eco mode starts discharge at eco levels. Then coming out of Eco mode it goes to the full discharge rate as was set initially but ignored...

On gen1 timed charge and timed discharge doesn't play very well at all.
An alternative might be to reset to defaults, make sure it is in eco, set the timed charge.
Then set discharge rate to zero. It'll not quite hit zero, might be out 300W discharge. Then when your peak rate starts, whack the discharge rate back up to maximum so it'll then follow house demand again.
My normal routine (as I am sure most people also do) is to charge and hold early hours then full discharge 4-8pm.
Nothing more complicated than that but it just does not seem to reliably do this.
I can charge and NOT hold without any issues - works 100%.
I have tried adding a 30min charge and NOT hold slot immediately prior to the full discharge and I thought that had sorted it but it is still not working reliably.
Is there anything Giv is doing about this?

There's been firmware since July 2023 which addresses the issue. GE have made a "business decision" not to release it.

nythbran sorry, I don't quite understand what you're trying to achieve: "charge and hold" and "full discharge" are not terms I recognise.
If by charge and hold you want to charge battery to, say, 100% and then have it sit idle until 4pm, one option is to set the charging period to end at 4pm - it won't be drawing any power once it has reached it's target, but won't release any either until the end of the timed window
If full discharge means discharge at fixed (max) power in order to export to grid, then I think gen-1 systems have a limitation that means they can only do that with eco off. But it sounds like you don't really need eco behaviour anyway?
But since you're using wonderwatt, which is now a paid service, perhaps you should be taking this up with them?

I gave up waiting for firmware that would actually work and went down the 3rd party routes.
Octo R&D lab. Worked but was flaky sometimes.

I took the plunge and went HA (got a Pi off son) and been pleased since

SteveCook I do the same as Steve but use WonderWatt. Works perfectly most of the time.
I charge in the 7 cheapest slots overnight, sometimes hold that charge for the day then use it between 4pm and 7pm. I do not need to hold the charge on days we don't cook in the evenings (Mon, Tues and Wed) as there is enough to go through the day. On the other days, holding the charge in the day allows for cooking use in the 4-7pm period. Yesterday my battery powered the house from 6.30am to 9.30pm.

During my hold slots my inverter will actually provide around 300W to the house (a "feature" of my firmware!). This happens to be the background level of my house which keeps the day use low whilst still allowing enough for the evening. I can also edit the discharge current to give a little bit more to the house if I think I have enough.

Your inverter is different to mine so that could be the root of your problems. I have an AC3.0 and 2x5.2KWh batteries.
