TheDragon was right, there will not be a BMS11 public release, so we can start a new post once a new BMS has been released to the public.

Fully charged yesterday morning and held charge, set a discharge at 3kw and let it ride and ive never seen it get close to 291 before when discharging, it even stabilised around 294/295 after a few minutes when hitting 4%.
Managed to get 14.3 into battery.
Also never pause the charge + discharge as it will stop registering home use as well as solar in meter data.

wrighar It is a singular AIO yes, when I was on flux and charging at 5kw it was hitting over 330, on agile and enough slots I charge at 4kw

Generally after 2 days im around 3kwh less than what I put in, tonight im at 3.7 I am also not sure why it keeps tanking like this for like 20-30% then going back to steady decline on BMS 12

So far the in/out has been worse than 10 when it has behaved, I have not yet updated inverter and dongle yet nor done a calibration since bms 12 went on but its acting more unpredictable currently than 10 and im contemplating whether I should update inverter version as well as dongle because every time ive done it since BMS8 and its corresponding inverter version its not gone well and waiting for decent price period on agile before I think about doing a calibration again.

Things got a bit wild this morning though between 7 and 10, normal load hoping it would empty before sun came up and charging was paused (wanted to start charging when sun came up as it was same rate as export so thought why not).
It didnt hit 4% so forced a discharge as it had crept back up to 8% and then set it to start charging at 11:30 but oddly enough the voltages on the first two didn't flail about as much as they did under normal load.

Also pretty wild SOC lol

Still waiting for an extremely cheap long night period and im going to go against my better judgement and attempt an update and calibration.

My AIO is showing that BMS 12 and Firmware D0.616-A0.616 is available for update. I don't see a link to any release notes anywhere, so is there any guidance on what this gives and/or fixes?

When I upgraded to BMS 10 and 612, my inverter firmware had to be rolled back to 611 as the export rate limit (in my case 3.68) was being ignored. Do we know if this has been fixed in 616?
Installed, took 35 mins from start to the ‘finished’ notification.
No calibration required.
The Black Cat It was fixed in 613....I'm hoping its still fixed in 616, will let you know later as I took the plunge!

I'm still on V9 and 612. I did try unsuccessfully to upgrade to v10 several months ago but got repeated failures at 90% ish.
I'll hang fire until the end of the month and see what others report before attempting the upgrade.
Upgraded to the new ones and it took around 30 minutes. All went well though it reported an error which I ignored as it was midnight and I went to bed. All seems fine this morning and everything is working. Error disappeared. Note I left it late as I wasn't sure if it was going to do a calibration, and if it did, it would be in my cheap tariff slot. But it didn't do a calibration.
I did the same last night but also kicked off a calibration for good measure. Several times during the 30 mins I wondered if I had jumped too soon but I just had to hold my nerve and monitor the portal logs to see things were still going on! My AIO has been pretty solid SOC wise with IOF keeping it well worked. Hoping its will be as solid going forward.
I was hoping the "charge from solar with AC Charge off" feature was going to come back in the latest firmware but no luck. Waiting for GE response on if its broken feature or a fixed bug.
Yeah as I was having issues with 10 (not 10 BMS upgrade itself it was great but the later firmware changes) so wanted a clean slate so I also kicked off a manual calibration within my 5p window 🙂
It put in 15.7 so let's see if it can keep a track better than I had before....

Solar charging at rate setting when ECO off and AC Charging Off - Confirmed as a bug thats been fixed a while rather than the "feature" I was hoping for. GE Suggestion to use ECO and pause discharge to achieve similar.
Hopeful It wasn't just solar it was home usage as well.

No, it is not wise, and personally I wouldn't.
There are a couple of stories about failed updates around, and no upside in doing it sooner rather than later.

Whether you notice any difference I guess depends on what you are updating from! I was on BMS11 as a tester and it was awful, so the update to 12 was night and day.

Thank you both for the replies. Currently bms10 and 613, dongle 901/902. Only observations with current setup is that at the end of the day when SOC is low, the discharge rate goes from about 2kw an hour to about 4kw, so we factor that in when deciding to charge. And experienced odd behaviour when charging battery at same time or after car, battery charge rate flat lines at about 22%, normally we get 36%. Solution has been to charge car last during the off peak period.
Not sure if updating might be an answer.

Well the first dull and cold day since the upgrade 5 days or so ago and full discharge via house load. Since upgrade to V12 it's been topped up overnight via grid and pretty much kept full up during the day due to the sunny spell with little heating demand. (PV gen 188kwh in first 9 days of March, 1kwh more than the total for Feb) Under BMS 10 I would have expected today to have given less than capacity when it reached 4% but..... It behaved perfectly, giving just over 13.5kwh! Too soon to break out the champagne but clearly promising.
Update took about 55 minutes for me, with the odd battery notification in the middle. All seems well so far and better, even without calibration.
Also the AIO was offline multiple times in the process and afterwards. All fine this am with no need to manually reboot.
mine took over an hour to do, but I think that's because it had to do a dongle update, Inverter and BSM from v8

Just done mine from V9. 58 minutes from start to finish. I didn't monitor the progress unlees I jinxed it 😉
This is probably not new to 12 but as it is still an issue I'll report it here.
We use the All in one for storing EV excess and to bridge the expensive periods in Octopus Cosy tariff periods.
For this I've set up a charging schedule during the 3 cheap periods , specifying 3 time slots and a max SOC % for each. This works really well, except for one major flaw.
For each time slot the SOC max specifies MAX % reached for AC charging, but the inverter refuses to store excess EV power during such a charge cycle period when the MAX AC SOC % is reached.
I would consider this a bug, EV excess should always be used to charge the battery till the specified max battery SOC has been reached. I've filed a bug for this.
616 and bms12 fixed multiple issues for me, been running it for a couple of weeks and the calibration issues are gone (we ended up with 9kwh usable before) and not had it drop off WiFi at all. Very happy with it!
I've had BMS 12 for 2 weeks now and haven't given it a chance to fully discharge since the calibration after the upgrade.
Still managing to get 100%-16% with 12.1kWh discharged.
It then charged 12.5kWh from 16% to 95%
This might be the firmware that finally works??
I'll have to see if I get an opportunity to fully discharge to 4%, but it's a bit more difficult to do with the cosy tariff.
Very odd situation last night, 17.7 went in yesterday and after hitting 4% only 15.4 went out so there is a difference of 2.3kwh, NORMALLY that would mean there is still some capacity left (Typical difference is 1.5/6kwh) so I decided to check voltages assuming it had to not go below 3.1 on battery side and didn't go below 300v on portal.
Portal showed it got down to the high 270's on voltage and cells got very low, down to the following

Never seen them get that low before, still waiting for a long cheapie night to update inverter version and do a calibration though.

Hopeful I'm guessing this is the new calibration, I think this is a good thing as before it would just stop charging and think it's at 100% when it's not.
it's better to look at the voltages to get a better idea of the SoC, mine is pretty much full if it gets above 328V while trickle charging, or if it hits 330V when charging at a higher rate.

Have you had a calibration done? you can trigger one yourself in the dashboard.
I took the plunge and did the 616/12 update during the week. Watched the battery and app with trepidation. Noted the on/off sequences and audible alarm and some considerable grid draw, wondered if I should have started this during off-peak period, but the update took about 1 hour with both dongles included.
My question to anyone is " How often should a battery calibration be performed?"
First overnight charge reported about a 50% / hour SOC increase, last couple of days it has reverted to @ 38% / hour SOC per hour.
If a calibration should be performed regularly, is it possible to do this in off-peak period?

I've been trying to get hold of my installer so he is ready to make this change once I've done the upgrade but I think he may be on holiday at the moment. I don't want to do the upgrade unless I know I can get this turned back on as my DNO export limit is 3.68 kW.
So far V12 seems to be OK but this morning, due to having a voltage recorder on the house by the DNO, when it was removed the engineer had to shut off the grid supply. Battery was at 100% and PV giving circa 2kw of which 1.8ish was being used by the immersion solar diverter and the few hundred watts excess sent to grid due to the solar diverter not kicking in until 300+ watts of excess is seen. The result was as I had surmised from a previous grid outage that in this state of full charge the EPS does not work as it doesn't know what to do with the excess energy. I have a query in with GE but radio silence. Undoubtedly this is not only the battery, but the gateway firmware that needs sorting.
When people do a calibration do they leave both charge/discharge at max?
And how often should a battery be calibrated?
Jellybaby I lower the discharge until to try and time it for when it will be done just before a cheap rate. I let it charge at full rate after that.
mole I only do it once per firmware upgrade, I did it once more on v10 because it was losing track of SoC but it didn't help because that version just sucked at tracking SoC.
V12 seems to be a lot better at self-calibrating so I'm guessing I will not have to do another calibration for the foreseeable future.

[unknown] Just a follow up on this, I done a calibration tonight since agile prices were low, last one was 7 months ago on BMS10 and its corresponding inverter version and in the post I am replying to the voltages got down quite low and I will post back in here.

I got the battery to 4% before final decision on the calibration and started it off, it went from 4>3>0 percent and got to around 275v (last week I saw it get to 278.12 getting to 4%) but no low voltage warnings in the portal showed up before it started charging.
This was the voltages during the calibration which you can see at the end and what they got down to, they look quite similar to the above image.

I am charging at full rate so I will see what it decides to put in and how it behaves in the coming week.
Can't believe it took me 5-10 minutes to get these images through.
Calibration put 15.3 into battery, have seen a standard charge put 15 in before and ive hit 14.7/8 a few times, now I just see over the next couple of weeks how it behaves.
Does upgrade to latest bms 12 require empty and re charge to full as part of upgrade?

God, this is without a doubt the worst forum ive ever come across since this error started.
Thought I'd post an update now as I've finally managed to drain the battery fully after many weeks since the update to v12.
The SoC has been taking a right beating as it has had a LOT of partial charge/discharge at different rates (solar charge/grid charge)
Happy to say that it still managed to give 13.4kWh from 100% to 4% after many weeks of not being fully discharged.
If it keeps this up then I'd say I've pretty much got no problems with this now *fingers crossed*

Today was a good Agile day so i force discharged my battery down to 4% and let it sit there for an hour before doing an import at full pelt, about 5600 watts ( I usually have the charge set to about 3250 watts ). I had some reasonable solar contributing as well. Battery went from 4% to 100% and charged 15.2kW.

Another almost identical day to yesterday so I repeated the procedure and again had the battery charge 15.2kW from 4% - 100%.
Still getting those cliff drops before it stops then goes about business as usual and its infuriating. Makes any kind of battery automation useless.

[unknown] I’ve had one fairly large drop like that since switching to BMS12. Was after a couple of weeks of no overnight grid charge.
Once it drops though, it charges ok with no drop in capacity like some of the earlier BMS.
So far I would say BMS12 is the best yet.
I agree, this new version is the best for multiple AIO’s as well. I am also on GW FW v12. Not seen any issues with that either. Well done Paul and the team ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In response to my technical query regarding EPS mode not kicking in recently with a full battery and solar export happening, GE responded with this "There was a setting 'enable micro grid' that was not enabled" Looking in the settings on the web portal I can see this has been applied now, but not able to see where it is. Guessing this is an engineering function not available to end users. Will have to test it again with a full battery and solar export happening to see if it has cured the problem. Not sure, but maybe this setting was turned off when the V12 update was done.

May I ask a question. In your settings on the portal are both EPS and "force off grid" now on. Is the later the ' micro grid' setting that GE are referring to?
My settings are just EPS on. Googling for 'force off grid' gives the impresion that this is required to provide backup power during a grid outage. So I am somewhat confused now as to what the setup should be and exactly what the EPS function is if the grid is down.

The EPS setting in the GivEnergy Cloud relates to Emergency Power Supply (EPS) mode, which allows your system to provide backup power to a dedicated circuit (or circuits) during a grid outage.

Battery Balancing through the day against grid.
Im losing on average 1kWh a day currently - I was pretty sure back on 7 I used to see the odd 5-20 watts lost an hour.
Anyone else seeing the same levels or is it something odd on mine?
DreadorUK Can't say im noticing much difference myself tbh, easy to spot the days I didn't charge battery from grid and the only time I actually drew from grid was when shower was on as mum just has to have it on full blast instead of low then moan it didn't help with her chronic headaches.

My AIO has always done that - I use the Inverter Monitor and I see my battery gently releasing energy when full and gently charging around the 99% SOC area. Never been a problem and the system works as expected

I don't have any solar so for me its simple charge then use it up till its run out so no import noise as such

Just had my worst efficiency yet, close to going below 80% and worst SOC nosedive (I paused discharge for a bit hoping it would last til I got up but alas no), usually it nosedives for a bit then slows right down but this time it didn't, went straight down to 4% and stopped at 305v


I know there is more in there because the voltages didn't even show 2.9 or 3.0 at the bottom range

This was pretty funky even for me, I paused the battery at 22:45 last night til 4am when I charged it back to 100% and kept on grid til 10am.


your cells in pack 2 are still a mess - I think you've given it more than enough time for the BMS to try and sort it & it's clear that it can't - put it out of it's misery & put a warranty claim in.

There is something else you could try while you’re waiting. Either installer or if you’re confident to do it yourself?
Switch off AIO and isolate
Remove the front cover
Mark the batteries 1-2-3-4
As they are slot in batteries, take them out and swap the order but ensure current 2 goes in the top.
Try 2-3-4-1
This will do 2 things, double check it is pack 2 that is causing the issue & putting a different battery in slot 2 checks it’s not an issue with the AIO?
Daveb01 My installer sucks, I called them on Monday as power tripped and it wouldn't come back on so I phoned up to see if the installers used the #8 on consumer unit labelled "Spare" as it had a bright white 40amp fuse on it and couldnt get the lever to stay up unless that was off but once power was back on I could turn that fuse on fine, looked new, still not heard back and I don't want to mess with it myself for them to have an out and say its my fault.
I went along the bottom row flipping the switches before trying to restore power and it wasn't til I got to that one that it stayed up but then all the ones I flipped off flipped back on fine.
He said "Give me 24 hours to check in with them"...................

I have sent Givenergy another E-Mail and if I don't hear back by friday im going to be calling them up on whatever number they got.
Decided to email installer so I could get proof of what I asked when I asked the same question I phoned up about and found out why I didn't get any phone call yet when I phoned them on the 3rd.

They cannot ignore the fact that SOMETHING is wrong because they should all be relatively close and not be having those kinds of gaps between cell voltages.

Jellybaby Just wanted to follow up on this, it seems like the solar equipment isn't on that 40amp breaker which is odd because it looks whiter than the rest of the equipment but it goes to the bathroom shower and even weirder is that its on the slot that I swear says "Spare" which we had not noticed before but the shower has been in there at least a good 10 years.
Mum tried having a shower this morning and twice within seconds of turning shower on the power went and leaving the #8 switch off the shower had no power, dopey woman said to me that for ages now even on lowest setting its still coming out very hot.............. WHY THE HELL DID YOU NOT MENTION THIS BEFORE WOMAN.
What is odd is that switch its on didnt flip down to indicate there was a fault with it like the others had done and before the power used to come back when we just flipped the main switch back up but its only been recently #8 had to stay off til we flipped power back on THEN we could flip #8 on MCU back on.
One problem solved at least lol, man these showers are expensive.
Jellybaby IME a lot of these electric showers are now ultra-sensitive to the temperature of incoming cold water. What happens is that in summer the temperature of the standing water in the house pipework will tend to rise to ambient temperatures and hence the first few litres of water going into the water heater are probably above 20-25C. Certain brands/models are fairly well known for throwing a wobbly (usually lock out the shower controls for 30 minutes) when the water feed is above 20C for ANY length of time. More sane designers assume this is going to happen regularly and run the shower at zero heat power for enough time to clear water in house pipework.
Vestas She said it was very hot not what you would expect summer water to be, little too hot which is why she kept turning it down but all the way down its still always hot, she can be in the shower for 10 minutes and its still as hot as when she turns it on she says.
Going to replace it with Mira Sprint £220+VAT to supply and install.
I did get word back on Monday saying that they need more time to look into things so its nice to know they are still looking, just have to wait and see what they say they do have a lot of data points to look at that I sent them.
Also regarding shower it was around 13 years old and the top of the cylinder was heavily limescaled up and I assume had cracked some of the casing as it was leaking inside and spluttering over the circuit board and since we have had odd random trips for a couple of years with no individual breaker going down and no trouble turning it back on before we never found the cause.
Had it replaced.

With all the solar generation my AIO has been hovering at about 75-80% charge. I pause the battery after the overnight discharge so all the solargets exported. With todays negative pricing set an export down to 4% for the early hours and am currently charging back from the grid +solar. The battery went from 64% to 4% in one hour at a discharge rate of 5kW. Hopefully the full discharge / charge cycle will bring things back into line.
[unknown] When there are cheap slots I have been dumping whats left into the battery so it gets a full discharge but yesterday was weird, I didn't do a full charge just enough to last til the cheap period started this morning and I paused discharge and set an alarm for 1h beforehand and there should have been 1kwh left but it didn't go well so I had to charge for 90m then discharge.

Any installers should make sure the CU is properly labelled, otherwise, as you have found, you can be chasing the wrong thing. Glad you have sorted it, that seemed like a nasty fault. Worth installing a water softener? We've always run one as in a hard water area and it makes a huge difference to showers etc.
Ultima357 Was thinking about it but our boiler isnt a normal boiler, it feeds hot water tank and heating and I read that shouldn't use water softener with some pipework and not sure if it would be ok with an electric shower.

Its a condenser boiler, Vaillant Ecotec Plus 415, 2 dials to the left of the screen on the left and 4 buttons below screen.
[unknown] Well electric showers are fine with soft water, no scale build up. I've never heard of any softwater issues with Combi boilers either. Only issue I'm aware of is if you have a pumped hot water circuit running a loop for instant hot water at taps. Unlikely to have one in a normal house but if so, soft water can errode the pipes if copper, so normally these are done in plastic these days, previously used stainless steel. You just need to preserve one tap for drinking water, usually the kitchen one. Running costs of a softener are small, just salt really. Maybe £1/wk, never really worked it out.

Do you have lead pipework anywhere? If not then that "advice" isn't valid.
AFAIK all combi boilers in hard water areas should have should have a scale filter on the cold water feed and a magnetic trap on the CH circuit which gets cleaned out once a year.

Jellybaby An 80s fit out would be unlikely to have either of those, but I'm guessing that the boiler is not that old, so probably retro fitted with the boiler.

The GW 13 firmware has a hard import limit based on incoming Amps. If the shower is on and the AIO is charging, and this results in the GW overload, the updated FW could help.
Set the import limiter to 83A
No issues outside of faulty appliance, have had the shower on whilst charging at max (which I rarely do nowadays) with no issues, had a good run though at 13+ years.
Finally saw 3 packs get around 3.0 for the first time in a while today which was surprising, I always assumed the big dip with half the cells in second battery was stopping that

be nice when spamming to get 1 image in it didn't save duplicates to your media library, I probably got hundreds of images there that are just duplicates.

Jellybaby hi yah, sorry to hear your still having issues. FYI my house load for a 24 hr period was close to the capacity of the AIO and I was seeing drops the same as you (but not as bad), since getting a second AIO, joining the beta program and on the latest, Dongle, BMS and FW I have not seen any issues.
Is your house load close to 13.5 kWh?
