Gap between PV drop off and Battery Engagement

Hi All,
At beginning of April 2022 had an install of 3.6kWh Hybrid Inverter with 5.2kWh Battery.

After getting my first bill from Octopus I'm pulling a lot more energy from the grid than expected (average 4kWh per day even on the sunniest of days). The GivEnergy portal only ever shows grid import as 0kWh but the mains electric meter shows the increase. I think the install team put the EM115 CT on the wrong way pointing towards the GivEnergy system which i flipped to point towards the electric meter because intially the battery wasn't kicking in at all. I know the preferred advice would be to go back to the installers but I've not had much luck raising tickets to get their help so have lost faith in them.

Something that seems to be odd is that is the PV power drops off to 0kWh around 20:00 (this time of year) but the battery remains at 100% until 22:00 presumably leaving a gap where the grid takes over for some reason? The Battery Charge mode is set to Solar/2600W with a Dynamic mode and 20% Reserve.

Is there anything i'm missing that could be causing this or things to note if the grid import is higher than expected? Any help welcomed and happy to provide further info or be pointed towards an existing post with some guidance....

I would firstly verify that the EM115 meter is actually measuring the same voltage and current as your main utility meter, especially the CT being clamped around the correct cable and not a branch off with less than the total current.
The display on the EM115 is useful for this, by checking the live kW power reading say between 20:00 and 22:00 with a suitable load such as a kettle. Also over a few days check the EM115 import energy value (kWh) against that from your main utility meter.
Once the EM115 meter is proved to be correct, then look in to the inverter control setup.

One possibility is the inverter is not set to delivery energy from the battery until after 22:00.its worth checking what mode the inverter is running in via the portal, a good starting point is eco with the timed modes disabled (charge, discharge, export)

Simon_C Thanks for the prompt response. I'll monitor this and feed back the results if nothing stands out to me. Out of curiosity, do you know if there is there anything that can be "set" on the EM115 CT or is it a passive monitoring device?

locked Thanks for the prompt response also! The Interverter is certainly set to eco with timed modes disabled. Battery Charge Power and Discharge Power are both at 2600W, it's not clear what those setting do, are you able to elaborate or is it unrelated? (apologies for [possibly] basic questions)

prattttt charge and discharge power sets the max rate that the inverter will charge or discharge the battery. By default it is set at max (which varies by inverter, my ac inverter is 3k). For example the charge rate could be reduced in order to allow excess solar to be used by other devices such as a immersion diverter or EV charger.

The EM115 only has 1 pushbutton on the facia, which is used to cycle through the available live values on the display.

I have configured a work related Modbus device to read from/write to an almost identical unit from another UK meter supplier, which by chance uses the same Modbus data addresses as the EM115. The only writable fields were related to the Modbus comms parameters other than 1 field that set what calculation is to be used for the net energy value in relation to import and export energy values (sum, import-export, export-import etc).

So I would say in the main, the EM115 is a monitoring device.
There were certainly no parameters that could affect the calibration of the unit, such as CT ratio which is more common on industrial type metering.
