First sign something was wrong:

Then on reloading:

A few times of this, then a bit later:

Click on ‘homepage’ and I get:

Search for the givenergy system status page, and err, no, this is wrong:

If you are reading this then its obviously all back again…

Hope this isn’t going the way of the rest of the customer support channels 🤪

geoffreycoan All the certs were broken so best case is someone screwed up a zonefile change.

It seems to be creating double posts and putting the reply down as unknown sometimes.

TX200 Lot of issues uploading images at the moment, often getting ‘unknown error, please reload the page’

The server backend got some updates. Maybe these issues were during the updates.

TheDragon (GivEnergy) any update on this please?

Posting replies is still very difficult. It says it has failed (doesn't always) and doesn't let you try again (too fast error!).

The only option is to open another tab and see if what you typed actually made it to the forum.

Also uploading images is very very temperamental.

Cheers

TX200 Although you get the red error message, the post does usually get added. Of course when we try again, we get the duplicates.
We also get @unknown.
I have found that if I reopen the post and select 'edit' followed by 'save changes', @unknown often magically changes to the name of the person I was replying to.

When trying to post a graphic, I get most success by saving the text, closing the post, and trying again.

So many workarounds for this increasingly flaky forum.

Rbor I wonder if it's time to close this one and just use the beta forum.

It's a bit different, but I think it works fine from a user perspective at least.

Not sure who else is on it.

TX200 Let's hope this forum settles down first before contemplating this.
I hadn't picked up that there is a beta forum and I don't know where it is!

@Mickey (GivEnergy)

Seems to be 2 days ago.

But a fair point, shouldnt we just bit this and use the Discord one openly. vs running 2 forums

TheDragon (GivEnergy) test

edit: i do wonder how this double forum post is happening, is it happening everytime?

#14 TheDragon (GivEnergy)

Maybe if there is more test in the box, or the typing is fast

This forum has always been known as the official community forum. But you are a free on making suggestions towards better forum or even a new one.

We have a community beta but I don't personally manage or visit the site too often

TheDragon (GivEnergy) figures, whenever you get the developer involved it fixes itself 😆

#17 TheDragon (GivEnergy)

haha. Yet on another thread it would not post.

Go figure

Replying, quoting and embedding fails about 80-90% of the time for me. For the last 2 weeks or so?

If this forum does get binned off can it be archived some how? There's an awful amount of info to just get lost.
I have no idea if Flarum lets you do that, but equally because it's behind a login things like Internet Archive can't get to any of it.
Worst case I guess you could just iterate through it's brain 20 posts at a time, but it's far from pretty/easy to piece it back together again.

@Mickey (GivEnergy) as per PianSom likewise, replying and quoting I get a failure more times than not. Embedding an image fails about 90% of the time requiring repeated repeated attempts to upload an image

Been doing it for the last few weeks

When you reply, quote or add an image to a message the entry requires a pointer to something else. By the time you hit post reply there is something wrong with that pointer - it has gone stale. But the pointer gets refreshed so that if you hit post reply again it works. That's the cause of the double posting.

This started with some sort of Flarum update in December. I'd be looking at how the pointers are generated and disposed of and in what time frame. Or for Flarum components that have not all been updated to the same level.

Looking back on busy threads "unknown" started coming in around 31st January. Was there a Flarum update then?
