Im still waiting deliver of a replacement for a failed dongle and was interested if anyone else has had to replace their dongle. If so did it work ok ie confirmed failed dongle. Im pretty sure the external dongles are the same on all equipment and Gen 1 inverters is not unique.

My dongle after 2 yrs stopped broadcasting its own WIFI SO######## and disconnected from home wifi network. So from here there is nothing i can do. GE diagnose faulty dongle likely.

Warranty claim as inverter will not work without it. GivEnergy choice to design it that way and not onboard wifi or Lan port

Replacing a dongle will work, even if the old one hasn't failed! Just edit the msn.txt

Dongles should be very reliable and failure is unlikely.

Broadcasting the wifi only starts after the dongle has booted successfully. Have you reformatted the dongle? Have you run fsck against it?

Rubikcube no I haven’t reformatted it. Or run fsck either. Should I reformat. I’ll try Fsck. I gave up waiting on installer sending replacement dongle and had to order one from ebay.

When i run fsck it says fsck.ext2: no medium found? Hmmmm
Superblock could not be read.
All getting a bit technical now for me pffft

Doesn't sound good, but I would try everything. If it is broken, you can't make it worse!

It should be formatted fat32 (I think) and contain just one file called MSN.txt which contains the 10 character serial number of the dongle (no return at the end).

Instructions (for windows) here starting around 3:30

Thanks for the heads up. It looks like dongle is corrupted somehow and I’ve exhausted my technical abilities/will. But it least I have an idea what happened

My dongle stopped connecting on Friday; followed the app advice on updating the WiFi info and wasn’t connecting. Noticed there was a firmware update on the installer app and did that and now the dongle doesn’t appear on my network list.

according to the installer a previous firmware update to the dongle via the installer app bricked a load of dongles so assuming that’s what’s happened and waiting on warranty claim for a new one.

Wackeeracer you can buy a new dongle from tradesparky, £50 or so if you don’t want to wait for the warranty claim

Is it easy to reset up?

Wackeeracer yes I understand it is, you need to create an MSN.txt file on the dongle with your original dongle serial number, but that’s it. See video linked above
