Broadband down - set Inverter to ECO Mode ON

Going to be without broadband for 2 weeks. Am on IOF (Intelligent Octopus Flux) - so none of their messaging will be reaching my HY3.6 Gen. 3 Inverter during that period. Thought that I might be able to use the portal to switch on ECO Mode - obviously not possible via my broadband internet connection. Is it possible to do this 'directly' via the Inverter WiFi somehow?...

Buy a mifi (battery powered WiFi with a SIM) or a mains powered mobile broadband WiFi router (I got a Huawei 535 if I remember the details right when I had an 8 day outage. It also has network ports you can plug wired stuff into).

Set that up with the same WiFi name (SSID) and password. If it offers split naming (different name/SSID for 2.6 Vs 5Ghz, then you could just set the 2.6Ghz to the old router's name and password - as that's what the inverter uses).

Turn your main router off and hopefully everything will connect to your new mifi/WiFi mobile broadband router.

Three charged me £10 per month for the SIM (plus a cost for the router itself), so not too expensive as a backup. I kept it for about 4 years I think, it's now powered off to save money.

TX200 Sounds like a good solution. Sadly(!), am now on gigabit fibre - my old Draytek ADSL router had a USB port specifically for a mobile data backup - and the supplied Linksys router doesn't offer anything similar <sigh>.
More to the point, I'm away for 2 weeks (hence the long time to get fixed), and have until tomorrow morning to find a solution. Otherwise, for safety, I will just power-down the system (Inverter, 9.5kWh battery, and 12x PV). (Even bigger <sigh>.)

Pop into a three store tomorrow, they might have one of the mains WiFi routers in stock?

jonhd Can you not use the GE app (which I think is a local connection) to set Eco on?

[unknown] I think local connection only works once it's checked the GE server for security reasons.

I guess that will work if both mobile network and WiFi are turned on, on the phone?

Although there is a chance the app will try to use WiFi and it fails as the broadband is down.

Modern phones auto switch to mobile data if WiFi is unreliable, so might be okay?

And you'd have to be in the house to connect locally of course, not ideal if away from home!

The other options of course are using apps like the BBC basic inverter app or Rubik's app. I think some of these need a payment to open up the control options and again will only work when in the house.

[unknown] I think I read somewhere that you can temporarily take your device off smart-control via the Octopus app. I know it works for IOG - not sure how it can be feasible for IOF since you can have the best of both worlds : full control of the inverter, but the preferential tariff rates.

Can run a mobile hotspot on your mobile phone ?

Is your broadband router still providing wifi in your home?

If so, i'd use the BBC app to set Eco mode, easiest solution

If not, setup a wifi hotspot on your phone with the same SSID and password as your old wifi, then set Eco mode, then disconnect it so Octopus can't change it back again

Thanks all for the suggestions - really appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow. (I'm waiting on a [promised] call-back from Octopus.)

Progress today. Broadband came back last night around 7pm, just as the sun fully disappeared from the front of our house (broadband had gone off @ 1:30pm, just as the sun appeared at the front of the house...). Generally fairly cloudy here today; broadband not gone off today. Toob, the broadband provider, tell me that their maintenance team MUST have access to the house internal kit, hence unable to visit until I get back from my foreign trip. The fault is at the optical level (red 'optical' LED on the ONT, when the broadband is off). They've already replaced the ONT on a previous visit. Go, as they say, figure.
The promised call-back from Octopus (re IOF / intermittent broadband) did not materialise, despite being promised.

Guess I'll just leave things as they are while I'm away, and keep my fingers crossed for cloudy afternoons (unlike 100% of everyone else on the forum!).

jonhd Sounds like the installer didn't clean the ends of the fibre properly prior to fitting a connector.
