Does setting Inverter output limit also limit EPS output?

The GE data clearly explains that the EPS runs from the battery, so if you are already taking power from the battery, there is less capacity available for the EPS. But I'm asking a different question and can't see any info on this elsewhere...

Background info: I have a hybrid 5kW inverter with EPS set up and running so I know it runs while there is grid power, and I know it runs during a power cut. I know there is a max 16A limit (3.6kW) on the EPS because this is the battery max output.

Q: If I set the inverter to a constant discharge of 250W during normal use, does this also limit the output of the EPS to 250W?

I don't think follows... During a power cut, solar can continue to generate, so input power can be higher than 3.6kW. But the EPs is still limited. (I actually thought it was 2.6kW, but I don't know where I got that.)

If you set a battery discharge limit on the inverter and there is a power cut and the EPS kicks in, the battery discharge rate setting is still in effect (as are all the other applicable settings).

The EPS max limit is set by the inverter not the battery (5kW in your case).
EPS runs from the battery plus any solar.
If there is no solar then the battery discharge rate will limit what the inverter can use.

alan_johnston Thanks Alan - I've seen that doc. I have method 1: independent earthing and a 16A breaker to a double socket in the house. The document does not say much about how the EPS works inside the inverter which is why I am asking about whether it's affected by the inverter discharge limit. I assume it would be affected by the battery discharge limit, but this is a different setting.

I would guess it depends where the inverter discharge limit is applied, and whether the EPS is taken off before this or after. I don't think the EPS can just be on the output side of the inverter because it is a different circuit entirely to the house feed, so does it have it's own inverter (which would add cost in manufacture) or is there a single inverter with the house feed input/output on a relay to allow isolation during a power cut?

I know the EPS is live all the time so it's not a fed by a relay switching the output.

EPS is direct connected to the input AC connections via a grid relay & position relay inside the inverter under normal running.
Once the grid fails, this relay lifts & disconnects the inverter output from the AC input but allows the inverter to push power out the EPS side still.
Note that the input earth from the grid side is completely disconnected during this process (I.e there is no earth continuity between grid and EPS side when running in off grid mode)

hoggy Thanks - that makes sense. If I've got this right, the inverter is effectively feeding EPS and load simultaneously, or EPS only with grid disconnected. Therefore any inverter settings would apply to the EPS output at all times.

What is the purpose of the position relay? It only seems to have an effect when the grid relay is open, choosing between the invertor output and the grid which is presumably off when the grid relay is open.

nophead Its for EPS circuits in island mode.

If you lose grid power then the grid relays and position relays toggle so the output from the inverter is only supplied to EPS circuits.

A year or so ago we had a power cut overnight. Battery discharge was set to 100W due to low agile price. This caused an EPS overload fault to show in the notifications. The load on the EPS was well within the capacity of the system. I had assumed this fault was caused by the low discharge rate set and lack of solar. Never seen this since. This would have been old firmware so not sure if same would still happen, or if my assumption was correct.
