Multiple AIO power failures

We have a 13.5kWh AIO, Gateway and EV Charger eco-system fed by two Solis inverters with 40x panels: all installed about 10 months ago.

Every few weeks or months since January, we have been plagued by intermittent power failures occuring mainly at night.

We have a couple of PCs on APC UPSs which log these failures, and they show each failure comprises multiple outages lasting several seconds, spaced several seconds apart. And when a failure occurs, it has been a bit of a rush to get to the Gateway and AIO to shut them down. But we were away during the last failure, where the UPSs logged approx 40 outages (!) until they shut down after 50 minutes. Normal AIO operation appears to have resumed about 30 minutes later. The UPSs are also logging "AVR Trim" periodically every few days, including for a few minutes leading up to the last failure: suggesting that the domestic voltage is too high.

Neither AIO nor Gateway logged any notifications about these failures, but curiously the EV Charger logged "GroundFault:25" within a few seconds of each, except for the last failure when the EV Charger was shut down.

Our installers have followed GivEnergy support's several fault finding checklists (checking earth spikes and bonds, wiring, comms cabling, isolators) with no result, but GivEnergy themselves have so far declined to attend on-site.

I am familiar with the GivEnergy API but this, as far as I know, does not expose the internal system logs which (assuming they exist) which should pinpoint the origin.

Has anyone else seen this issue? How did you resolve it?

solarzero Ground fault 25 is indicative of high grid voltage, and with 40 panels you could well be pushing the voltage higher

Is there any link between you exporting at night and the grid power failures?

Have a look at https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/6051-givenergy-evc-ground-leak-error26/ and look at the grid voltage recorded in the givenergy portal, although this is only a 5 minute snapshot. If your grid supply is too high, get your DNO to resolve it

The obvious is the above - high grid voltage - but that's normally a daytime thing where PV pushes the local grid up, so there are a few other avenues -

The cable between the AIO and gateway is quite finnicky - if it comes loose or is exceptionally long (so it picks up interference) then the gateway can't see the AIO. If it can't see the AIO it will fault and open it's relays - giving you a power cut. If it's a bit loose then it'll do weird things like that intermittently.

There are a couple of other quirks with the gateway:
It has a maximum capacity of around 18.5kW being passed through it. If you exceed this, the gateway opens & you get a power cut. This may potentially be your issue if "it's mainly at night" of which I guess your on a cheap overnight tariff might be the case:
AIO charging - 6kW
EV Charging - 7.2kW
Anything else >5kW = Trip (Heatpump/Dishwasher/Immersion...)

The other thing it might be is a genuine short power cut BUT you might have one of the early gateways which doesn't bond it's neutral/isolates from earth. In theory your EV charger would probably throw a ground fault when it does that (as there isn't a path to earth anymore) so although the likely fault to get a fault 25 is voltage, it might not always be that.
The test for that is to force the gateway into off grid mode and then measure between Live & Earth and Neutral & Earth - if both those read around 110V (but between Live & Neutral you see 240V) then it's the NE bond thing.

Relevant personal experience: last night between 23:30 and around 02:00 I was charging 2xAIOs, charging an EV and running the dishwasher (and had a background load of 5-600W). This is not unusual for me.

Power drawn was pretty flat at just under 17.5kW. Voltage dropped to 220-222V (so current around 80A; I have a 100A fuse).

Power flowing to the AIOs varies with other loads eg dips when the dishwasher is heating water. I believe the Gateway does this.

Paul L put a 17kW limit on my Gateway (default on second AIO install is 12kW iirc, but Giv will raise on request). Not sure why it goes a bit over.

The EV charger (zappi) seems to run at 32A, so I get about 7kW at 220V.

Thank you very much for your reply. High grid voltage may indeed be the cause, where the UPS are also occassionally logging "Extended Overvoltage" and "Frequent Overvoltage" (255Vac) which I am going to explore this further.

However, I doubt that the panels are a cause: all the failure events have occured from late evening or early in the morning.

Thank you. I am exploring the possibility of high grid voltage, where the AIO may be tripping out the grid because of it. However, in such case I would expect its EPS function to activate in a similar way to our APC UPSs.
Checked on the SSE dashboard: no grid outages in our area. However the local DNO transformer is new and a very short drop (ca 30m) from our house.
Our installers re-checked the new earth spike they fitted and bonds, but I shall ask them to look at your post and review.
In all cases, we were not exporting and import was low (ca 1kW).
