Firmware update for battery and inverter

Hi All,

Can't believe its nearly been a year since i have been on here, Must be having fun

This might of been asked, I have searched the forum before i have posted to see what i can find but i could of missed it something, apologies if so. (my fault for not keeping up to date on here)

Just a simple question should i update to the firmware it is asking me to or will it not make any difference i have only realised that there is an update because i have logged in online as i have never had a notification on the app or an email saying there is an update to do.

I don't want to cause any issues if it unnecessary but understand that there is updates for a reason to fix issues that are happening on certain setups.

Happy to be back and i will make sure i keep up to date this time and help people on the way.

The truth of it is that some people update and have zero issues, some do and have problems. Impossible to say which set you might fall into.
I updated mine and the system works just fine, possibly better than ever before, with better SoC tracking and parity between my two batteries. Mind you, whilst the inverter updated itself just fine, I had to (and always have had to) update the batteries manually.

Sorry not to be more helpful, basically you pays your money (none in this case) and.....................

chris2023 I would say, if it aint broke, don't try to fix it. Lots of people have had some grief trying to upgrade firmware. I am still using firmware for inverter and battery from 2021 and it is still doing all I want so I don't intend to upgrade.

"Aint broke" sounds a simple mantra, but updating firmware is not such a binary decision.

Firmware updates can contain fixes to issues as well as performance improvements. They can also contain retrograde steps and GivEnergy is not blameless in that regard.

Nevertheless a blanket never upgrade policy means missing out on the positive steps. These have included things like a much faster response to load changes and improvements to battery management. The former reduces unnecessary import from the grid (saving money).

A cautious approach is to check others experience to particular upgrades on this forum.

When activating an upgrade one needs to be patient. There can be periods when the progress of an update seems to have stalled, particularly after an inverter reboot. This can go on for as long as 30 minutes but better to wait rather then try to interrupt it with other actions.

It can also be good to do upgrades at times (like weekday - daytime hours) when you are more likely to get support from GivEnergy if anything does go wrong.

I have done over 10 upgrades without issues, but I realise others do encounter problems which requir GivEnergy support.
