Hi i have the below inverter and a 5kw solar array. Am i right in saying that if i were to buy and install another set of panels at say 3kw i could effectively have an 8 kw setup even though i only have a 5kw inverter. I realise i would only be able to power the house at 5kw but i could fill it at 8, and presumably the max would be 15kw ie two strings at 7.5kw each. Probably worth noting i have a 3rd gen 9.5 battery.
Im looking to see how my system operates over the winter and then decide if theres any benefit in oversizing it to try to reduce winter costs.

Chips78 I think the max total solar input is 7.5kW. Max AC out is 5kW so you can only use 7.5kW if you can split it between AC output and battery charging.

I believe you can have:

2 * 7.5kW off the roof
5kW going out to the home/grid
and
3.6kW going off to the battery

so a max of 8.6kW 'used' from at possible 15kW generated.

I totally agree with the above from wrighar.

It is worth remembering that as soon as your battery is full you will be limited to 5kW and any extra solar will be lost (clipped).

I have a 9.24 kWp array. This consists of two strings. One facing southeast and the other southwest.
On a bright sunny day, the array tops out around 7.5 kW. So I make sure that the battery is discharged in the morning and recharge it in stages to reduce solar clipping through the morning and early afternoon.
