Hi folks,
If I add a few panels to my system are there any inverter setting changes required? Im currently on a gen 2 5kw inverter and have been offered a couple of extra panels. If I add them to my existing panels will they automatically be included in the inverter?
Thanks
Mick

It might help people answer if you say if you're planning on adding them on their own string.

Adding to existing string

They should just be plug and play, assuming you have capacity (volt and amps), they are broadly similar panels, and the shading will be similar

If the extra panels take you beyond your G98/G99 permissions from the DNO you will need to ask the DNO for permission and get a new G99 form completed and agreed by them.

Thought that was for the inverter, not panels.

Yeah it's only two panels and won't make a huge difference

If it's a 5kW inverter, say, then the OP could add a thousand panels and not exceed their limit.

I would be more worried about invalidating the MCS certificate if you self install.

wrighar Yes and no. If you had a system installed under G98 and 3.5kw of panels but you had a 5kw capable inverter if you add panels you can exceed your approval and would need to apply via a G99.

I would recommend reviewing any DNO approval documents there is likely to be more in it than the inverter limit.
