AIO Gateway and battery restart procedure

Before anyone says talk to your installer.

They have gone bust and the crowd that bought their assets have no interest whatsoever in doing anything except installs of new equipment.

The other local installers have given up with GivEnergy as they can’t get support and don’t want to even look at it. I’ve tried calling GivEnergy they’ve logged a call, say that they will get back to me but haven’t for two days.

What happened and happening

The Gateway started showing a red light then stopped providing power to the house. I had to switch the bypass breaker on to get any power. Now the Gateway is showing a red flashing light.

I’ve tried restarting the gateway by placing all the gateway breakers in off, and switching off the AIO battery.

Then I turn on the Gateway breakers one by one (except bypass). Next, I turn on the AIO battery breaker and push start. At that point a solid red light on the Gateway comes on and I still have no power to the house and have to revert to setting bypass on again to get power.

Any suggestions?

As I’m getting close to looking at replacing the GivEnergy kit as you can’t get anybody to support it anymore and GivEnergy doesn’t seem interested either. There’s not much point in a twelve year warranty if you don’t support it. Support from GivEnergy used to be great, now they don’t seem to be bothered.

Really regretting ever buying it

I had trouble with my Gateway which would not reset no matter what was tried. In the end everything had to be turned off In the Gateway AIO's etc then the final step was to kill power to the Gateway by turning off the breaker in the Meter Enclosure. The interesting thing was that turning off the Gateway Grid breaker did not reset the Gateway, But turning it off in the meter enclosure did reset it.

That's my understanding. The Gateway main board does not power down / reset unless all the AIO etc steps are done and then grid power is also removed from the Gateway.

duplada many thanks turning off the breaker in the meter box was the solution.

Was going well for a couple of hours but now the AIO Battery is showing a red light and has error flagged on the cloud portal in red. If you run the GivEnergy app health check it’s showing grid voltage as zero! When these systems go wrong you certainly end up having to constantly chase errors..

Yes, very true, Have a look on the Portal Inverters > Choose your AIO Battery, then have a look at the Notifications which may help you identify what the issue may be.

Thanks, Unfortunately there’s nothing current in the notifications in my system. The last entry is from Feb when we had a short power cut.

Have you tried doing a full reset through the APP just in case you have a rouge setting that is causing issues in the Portal.

Installer managed to visit today. The problem was a short caused by poorly installed wiring in one of the external isolators providing power to the AIO battery. The isolator was burnt out, due to shorting and had to be replaced. They also checked the other wiring in the other isolators. All appears to be working properly now. Many thanks to Paul for all his help in diagnosing the problem.

Glad it's fixed. When restarting our installer said to wait 5-10 mins before starting it up again, although I am not sure it's necessary.

It doesn't help that I can't see the AIO on/off button because the AIO breaker is right in front of it, I can't even tell it is lit up blue when I'm directly in front of the AIO. AIO restart procedure is in the same manual that has the gateway info, but it doesn't seem to have occurred to them that it would be useful to have a list of steps including isolators and PV string inverters, and which to switch of first and last. Our installer said AIO goes off first, then PV inverters, then gateway.
