This is a silly question because the answer should be obvious, but the 5 minute update interval on the portal... The cards show for example: 400w PV, 300w consuming, 50w battery charge, 50w grid export... That is an average over that 5 minute period, yes?

Oh well that is interesting if it is the case. There is little point downloading the data then as it simply will not be a fair reflection of what happened during the other 4m 59s of that window? Only the cumulative data will be accurate. I was going to create a spreadsheet using the data but it would be meaningless now.

Cumulative data is available on the power graph card. I thought you were asking about the fixed card at the top of the screen.
THALL I am asking about the card, but also what data is available in the inverter card, what you can download as a Excel XLSX file. What shows in the fixed card at the top is reflected in the various 'data' tabs of the inverter card. The only one that actually has decent data that reflects what happened in each 5 minute interval (not the snapshot of that particular second) is the 'meter data' tab which has cumulative data for several measures. Showing what happened at that particular second within a 5 minute interval (and not the other 4m 59s) is frankly useless and very misleading. I understand why GE don't do more frequent updates but I think each update should be an average of that 5 minute period, not a 1 second snapshot.
browellm Yes so from what @THALL said, in my example of 400w being shown in the top card for PV generation say, that is 400w at the second the data was pushed. But what if between 0:01 and 4:59 PV generation had been steady at 2kW? You'd think that in that 5 min period 33.3w was generated (400wh/12) but really is was closer to 166w (2000wh/12 - (400wh/300))

browellm Someone will need to correct me on this but the power graph looks to just show the same data from the top card at those 5 min intervals. You can check yourself, the values in the card at the latest refresh vs what the power graph shows for the same latest data refresh.
From what I can see, nothing in between is logged in the portal that is user facing. In my opinion the cumulative figures are the only ones worth anything in the datasets. My attention was drawn to this when I boiled the kettle the other day and it wasn't shown as a peak on the power graph.

browellm Thanks, I have previously registered my interest. Until then I'm going to get going with the API and build my own dashboard using the cumulative data which should be more accurate than the 5 min interval which I'm sure was only ever intended as an indicator of those values.
chris_p TBH that is one of my main bugbears - 5 minutes is pretty useless IMHO.
I have bought a MyEnergi CT clamp, fitted it to my Harvi & the inverter +ve lead and I now use the MyEnergi app for real time usage. But there is always a 0.1 - 0.2kw difference in flow. rarely if ever do they match even if refresh a 5 minute segment and immediately switch to the MyEnergi app for a comparison.
It is just snapshots of data for the top cards and the app info too. The power graph is also just a compilation of these snapshots to my understanding.
The daily totals are correct (I've been tracking it versus my Octopus account billing) only caveat being any data drops will mean errors.
I guess the system logs total kWh usage as the daily/weekly report emails also have these figures on.
I find I use the myenergi app for real time monitoring for better indications of current demand. Only problem is I can't see real time generation, best to stick my head out the window TBH. I'm mainly interested in avoiding too much load, thereby draining my battery when I don't want, I can check either my IHD for the smart meter or myenergi app. Otherwise I'm interested in NOT exporting if I can help it. The myenergi is about the only way I can really check this in real time. Other than that, having granular data on how much I'm generating at any given time, doesn't really help me, I can do anything to change the situation with the information. If there is too much generation and not enough load, GE will charge on the fly. If there is more demand than generation the battery will deliver the difference. The meter data, how much it It will cost me is the only major factor. Logging only really provides a general reference.
