As the title state: 4G dongle stopped working and signals no connection
Was working OK up to about a year ago apparently and is a 5 year data SIM. Thing is how do I know, as the invoice was for a 5 year data plan SIM staring Oct 2022 and unless its developed a fault, its behaving almost as a 3 year plan device!
I cannot communicate with it so how can I verify exactly what is is?

Roger can you try taking the SIM out and putting it in your phone, and putting your phone SIM into the 4G dongle to see if its the dongle SIM that has expired or the dongle
If the dongle you can buy a new one from tradesparky website, details elsewhere on this forum about how to get it working with your inverter (you need to copy the dongle serial number over)
Thanks for your reply, I was hoping that there was an easy way to check the sim data package value other than removing it from the dongle - even then I'm not sure if it will be displayed!
Roger I guess you could contact whoever the SIM data plan is with and give them the IMEI? Don’t know if that was on the original packaging, or is shown in the portal, otherwise you’re still going to have to take the dongle out.
I think the 4G dongles were not used anywhere near as much as the wifi ones
geoffreycoan Thanks, however, having purchased a new dongle with a new sim you may be right about changing the serial number of the dongle over. Trouble is how - as I can't find anything near to editing it.
Any ideas?
I use an Apple Mac with MS Edge browser by the way

OK, so got fed up with messing around. Put the old dongle back with the new SIM, wakited for the signal lock and all is working again!
Thing is where can I purchase a new 1 year prepaid data SIM without the dongle?

Roger Most mobile networks sell them directly, often for use in tablets and things. Certainly Three does.
Roger To change the serial number I believe you plug it into a computer and alter a text file on the root of the file system to match the number of your old dongle. If I recall correctly it is called something like MSN.txt
At least you have a spare now.
Roger If you're a business (or pretend you're one) then Scancom do a wide range of prepaid SIMs. Used them for years with no issues.
We have one in an external 5G router as a backup in case FTTP goes down (it happens) and 500GB/month for 3 years worked out about £4/month. 3GB/month is about £25/year.
