First time this has happened - battery just charged at a flat line 200W (normally 4kw charge speed) from 0030-0530 and hence only achieved 17% and now empty ... any ideas?

What tariff are you on? Is it a smart one, where you have handed control to others?
In the portal check the battery and inverter settings. You might want to change them to something else, hit save and then input the number you want and hit save again.
Look in remote control history and try to see if a change was made in some way. You should also be able to see if your new changes have registered.

Is your battery outside or in an unheated space? What were your battery temperatures last night?

SteveCook Not on smart tariff although inverter still thinks octopus has control ... but not been a problem so far. Nothing in the logs

pwdst Battery in integrated garage so never gets too cold. Can't find the battery temps ... where are they hidden?

Given the battery did charge - albeit at only 200W - the sessions look OK. So perhaps the temp, but it barely got to zero outside last night and it have been colder than that with no problems!

I've rebooted the inverter and batteries so I guess will have to wait until overnight to test again.
Bizarre!

SteveCook not on mine

This is 3phase system with HV batteries so perhaps different display?

Nil Desperandum I guess will have to wait until overnight to test again.

What's the cost of just doing a daytime charge for 1 minute? 4kW x 30p/kWh / 60mins/hr = 2p ?

DD yeah just did a force charge and it went straight into charging at nearly 8kw (not the 4kw I said above!) so it's happy to charge at that rate.

(I was thinking more of the testing of the timed overnight slot test than the cost)

Thanks for all your thoughts ... I'll let you know what happens overnight!

Sorry. You did not say what kit you have.
This is what I see on my Gen1 Hy5.0

SteveCook yeah that's where I expected it to be ... can't find it anywhere

UPDATE: all seemed well overnight ... so perhaps just an inverter/battery brain-fart fixed by a reboot. Very odd though to charge at just 200W for the full period ...
Thanks for all your help and thoughts.
