Hello,

Internal Dongle [Inverter Model GIV-HY5.0] NOT broadcasting a wifi signal

I have a 30 month old GE solar/battery system. We had a internet provider and router change Feb 2026. Our installer has confirmed that the inverter dongle isn't broadcasting and when hardwired into the router, there is no hardwire dongle connection listed. No listing in current wi-fi network and doesn't connect and/or list within the new router.

Initially, the dongle did broadcasted a wifi signal but the GE installer app just dropped the connection during the router info update via the installer app. Even changing the new router name and password to the old router, the dongle just failed to connect.

The system has been shut down including the battery, left powered down for hours and rebooted without success,. GE support are aware including images of no dongle wi-fi listing. Still waiting for a response, keep calling and emailing.

Anybody had this issue before or know how to reinstate the dongle, Whether there is a specific way to bring the dongle back to life. Holding the button for 15 minutes changes nothing with the light [flashing]. the toggle switches seem to function okay.

Thanks Steve

How has you installer "hardwired into the router". The dongle does not have a LAN connection It is a wifi device
Gen1 inverters are wifi only and use a specific wifi dongle
Later inverters have a LAN connection for hard wiring. but you need to set specific dip switches, and on some versions the LAN port was not actually connected and there is a flying lead for a LAN connection inside the unit.
Sorry I have a gen1 and have never saved the posts that describe how to make this connection

Hi Steve no need to apologise, I'm grateful for any information to fix my system issue.
So, my gen 3 doesn't have a dongle, maybe a wi-fi board? There is an aerial inside the lower cover. A LAN port, etc.
The Octopus Engineer ran a loose cable from the inverter connected to the new router. The router app showed no wired connection. So he spoke to GE Support [2 weeks ago]. I've found a GE video showing how to manually update the firmware via USB.
Any advice on whether to try this?

I think you need to have a look where you installer ran the cable to and post some pictures on here. Also post some pictures of your dip switch settings. Others on here will no doubt be able to help. Once you get your inverter online, you can debate a firmware update.

I have a faint recollection that the dongle is 2.4Ghz WiFi only and I had to enable 2.4Ghz WiFi when installing a new router a few years ago. If you've had a new router installed, it's possible that 2.4Ghz has not been enabled?

Have you tried the wifi reset button just to the right of the dip switches? It needs to be pressed for >15 seconds to do a factory reset on the wifi. This will also reset the wifi password to factory default. The 4 switches on mine are all ON
