SEG Scottish Power and Battery

Hello.
I had apply for SEG with Scottish power as they pay the most 5.5p/kWh. When I apply few months back i did not have battery but now battery is installed. Do I need to inform them that I have install battery?
I have 3.6 Gen 1 Hybrid Inverter and 5.2kw gen 1 battery and i think charging controller on hybrid units is on DC side of installation so do not need to inform any one of battery installation. Please correct me if im wrong and if so what documents I need present to Scottish Power.

HipHopAst If Scottish Power are selling your SEG output to their customers as "green energy" then they may not agree to your supply as your plant could be viewed as "brown energy" (because the battery could have been charged from non-green grid supply rather than solar). We have gone with Octopus SEG because they recognise the role of battery technology in "peak-lopping" and are happy for the use of battery technology.

Ok ill look into Octopus SEG as a lot people recommended it.
Funny thing is that my electric supplier is EON Next and they claim that 100% their energy is from renewable sources.

HipHopAst Have you looked at Eon Next SEG tariff? If your supply is with them they may offer a competitive price. Eon do a good SEG price if your supply is with them but I'm not sure about Eon Next.

Tim Hi. Thanks for your input. They do have very good offer but only if you bought battery from them. Otherwise they are average. I apply for SEG few months back but since that did not hear anything from them. So pretty awfull service.

I contacted Scottish Power about 4 weeks ago regarding SEG and other than an automated email saying my custom was very important to them blah blah, I've heard absolutely nothing since.

I think I'm just going to go with Octopus as I know they'll accept my set-up. I thought energy companies were calling out for energy, may be they just don't want my excess 🙁

Ra My application to Octopus took a few weeks. The process seems to be that when your installer provides you with all the paperwork and you apply to the energy company for a SEG tariff, they check your documents and if complete, they then send them to your DNO asking them to create an export MPAN. They then wait for the DNO for an indefinite time. I'm not sure if there are performance metrics that the DNO is supposed to meet, but the SEG tariff supplier is in the hands of the DNO. On another thread, I've said that exporting to the local network is of absolutely no benefit to the DNO, just potential headaches and so there is very little incentive for them to throw resources at an issue which simply diverts your energy suppliers' income to you. The DNO (AFAIK) gets nothing. You will be exporting anyway, just not getting paid 4-5p/kWh for it.

Once you have your Export MPAN, it's much easier to swap SEG Tariff contract suppliers. Contact your chosen SEG Tariff supplier by all means but I suspect that they will be waiting on the DNO.

I am also with Scottish power and have applied for their SEG. I received the auto email saying we will get back to you within 15-20days but had nothing. After a few frustrating calls and we chats i managed to get a number to contact the FIT/SEG team, and after speaking to them was told there is more like a 6 to 8 week delay in responding.

I then decided to go with Octopus SEG but currently I am unable to get the required readings from my Honeywell smart meter as the buttons don't work. I have tried to get Scottish power out to look at it and fix/replace it but I have been told that because I now have solar I need to wait for the response from their SEG team.

So now I am stuck between Scottish power poor service on SEG applications and Octopus not wanting to take on a non working system.

If I had the option I would go with Octopus even though the tariff is less you would at least get paid monthly automatically (I believe) rather than 6 monthly and having to manually send pictures of the export numbers to the Scottish power SEG team which is how I interpreted their website.

You will still need to submit manual outgoing readings for Octopus SEG. Their billing has always been very irregular for me, though a quick prompt on a Twitter DM usually gets a response very quickly.

How often to Octopus do payouts? Joined them a few months ago, only had one meter reading request so far.

chris_p Are you with them for import? If so they credit your bill each month. Not sure about if you only use them for export
