Home consumption figures incorrect on app and web portal?

Hi All

I recently had my Givenergy 5kw Hybrid inverter and 9.5kw battery commissioned and was hoping someone can advise......

Its full sun outside and according to the app (and also on my PC), my PV array is producing about 4 - 4.5Kw. However, the app states I am exporting about 1.20kw and consuming about 2.59 kw - even though I only have the fridge and freezer going, battery is at 100% so not charging or discharging. This is just one reading but the app always shows I am consuming more power that I should be - even when everything in the house is turned off at the mains. I would have thought that all of the generated power goes to the grid if not used?

Any advice would be most appreciated - thanks in advance

GDP The app (away mode) and web portal both take values from the data sent to the cloud every 5 minutes by your inverter. Some values displayed on the web portal are are not updated every 5 minutes but at longer time intervals. The best data you can get (IMO) is from the app in Home mode for the here and now and from the web portal for historical data and trends.

The app in Home mode updates every few seconds but but even so, it is just a snapshot of inverter register contents which should be updated more frequently than every few seconds, but may not have for some reason. Our system has been in since January and I have found that if you try to work out what's happening from the app or portal values, you're on a hiding to nothing. If I see some weird numbers, I just put my phone down and look again a minute later and suddenly it all looks like I'd expect.

I also spent ages trying to work out what my phantom loads are which give us a baseline of 200-400W 24/7. There's no single thing, it's fridges, freezer, boiler (in winter) and 10W here and 15W there for things we want to be left on for convenience sake. But at least we've done the survey and anything up to 400W is just how it is.

Thanks Tim

Its like having a new toy and I am constantly looking at the app or online portal but I am sure the novelty will wear off eventually and I will hardly check the figure.

Yes home mode is best but I do notice that as the PV generation figures increase so does the home consumption figure as well as the export even though we just have the fridge and freezer on. At present generation 4.5 kw with 2.9 going to home and 1.38 to the grid( with only fridge, freezer and laptop on).

I guess that when I get a smart meter installed it will give more accurate figures on whats being exported

GDP smart meter installed

There are at least two services which are free to use which can give you access via API and smart phone app to your data which your electricity and gas supplier uses to calculate your bill. At least one of these (Bright app/Hildebrand) offers a dongle you can plug in at home and you can see live data from your smart meter (gas and electric), updated every 6 seconds. The data available covers the last 13 months rolling and is summarised every minute, 30 minutes, hour, day, week and month. I use the Bright app to check import/export now as opposed to the Givenergy app or (in my case) the myEnergi app.

Ah - that's another thing I need - a SMART meter . I guess Octopus will install one when I move over to them I can then get the dongle as you suggested .
