Dongle WiFi Connection

Hi All,

I've noticed today that my WiFi dongle is broadcasting its default SSID without security. I've had the system for 8 months and I'm almost positive that this was disabled when I joined it to my WiFi network. It's now in a situation where it's in STA mode, connected to my network but is still broadcasting the default SSID.

Is this expected and I just haven't noticed or do I have an issue? I would have thought that once you take it out of AP mode that it should stop broadcasting and just join the main network?

Both my dongles were left by the installer with no security on the WiFi 'hotspots', and at least one of them was also allowing access to the internet, via my broadband. Luckily I noticed quite quickly, so we were able to add passwords.

This is just one of many things that I wish the installers would tell you, rather than leaving us to find out the hard way.

Your installer should have secured this.
Aswell as changed the admin password to login to it

Best advice is login to your inverter with a web browser eg http://192.168.0.100 replace IP with your inverters IP.
Find using a LAN scan app if you dont know it.
One in there set the SSID password and change the admin password from admin to something else

Thanks guys. I secured it straight away when I found it, it was more around why it's broadcasting as an AP when not in that mode. I would have thought that once you connect it to a separate WiFi then that wouldn't happen, or at least you could turn the functionality off.

I think the AP feature is normally kept active, but properly password protected, so that there is a readily accessed method to cater for when the home broadband router is swapped out and the inverter no longer connects on the home WiFi.
There is always the dongle reset method though to recover to a known AP state and logon.

MelDoyle A simple solution already mooted is to change the SSID and password on your new router to be the same as your old one. That way, everything that used to work with wifi won't need updating.

If you're really up for it, you can change your router SSID to one of your choosing (eg MyCastleIsMyHome), set a password of your choosing (make it easy to remember but difficult to guess/hack), set all your wifi devices to the new SSID and password (laborious I know), then every time you change router, just set the SSID and Password to your own settings.

Oops, didn't answer the question asked. Yes you can. Just put the IP address of the wifi dongle into the address bar of your browser, enter the admin userid and password. Then you can change the STA interface settings to your alternative router (AP's SSID and Passphrase). If you don't know the IP address of the wifi dongle, you should be able to see it in the app-Preferences-Settings, greyed out below Search Inverter Manually. Failing that, it should be listed on your connected devices on your router.
