I have 2 x 8.2 batteries. The charge suddenly jumped from 79% to 100% in an instant. Can anyone explain what is happening? How can I know what actual charge is in the batteries? Are the graphics at fault or is it more serious? This is the 2nd time it's happened.
The battery %SOC is only accurately known at 0 and 100% charge based on the battery voltage, so any other %SOC is always an estimate which potentially gets more inaccurate the longer it has been since it was at 0 or 100%.
What you are seeing is a resetting of the %SOC when the battery BMS realises it is not actually 79% charged but 100% instead. There is no sudden spike in energy in or out of the battery, just a change in the reported %SOC value.
There is ongoing work by GE on this to improve the accuracy, but it is worth checking that you already have the latest battery BMS firmware installed.

I've had my system up for just over a week and have been noticing the same %SOC jumps.
I have the following firmware:
Inverter Firmware Version: D0.450-A0.451
Battery Firmware Version: 3007
Fairly consistently, once the %SOC gets to 80-90% it will jump to 100%.
Perhaps it used to be worse, but it's still a little... disconcerting if it's considered normal.
NB 3.6kW Hybrid Gen 1 Inverter, 8.2kWh Gen 1 Battery.
My battery has started to do this too...
from 51% to 100% today!

It has happened twice now in the last 2 weeks...

I have had the same issue, today is the biggest jump, 40% to 100%. Makes me wonder if the battery is delivering the full 8.2Kwh capacity?

Hang in there for the new inverter software.....
Mine went from 20% to 100% yesterday, and thankfully allowed me to use most of that stored energy (so it was probably really at 80% when it was showing just 20%). And to answer your question Jan B, no it will not be (currently) giving you the full 8.2kW.h capacity, but reports regarding the new software seem positive (despite GE's poor record in the past).
Same here!! This morning it showed 2% at 6.00am. Sun came out later (wow!) and it started charging up. It reached 38% charge when, in the space of less than 5 minutes, went to FULL CHARGE! Clearly not possible... Anyway, I have been in touch with Givenergy and they are aware of the issue and they say that a software update will be released on 16 December 2022. In the meantime, I do not know which numbers to believe.... All last night I was drawing Grid power, but I have a suspicion that the battery was fully charged but not supplying the house. Sun has now gone down, and my iPhone app says I am drawing healthy power from the battery. Lets hope for resolution a.s.a.p.
Happened to me last week. 20% to 100% in one time tick. From the later discharge numbers it was actually fully charged and it then discharged nicely down to 4%.

I experienced the same thing. This is a recent install and I have very little else to compare too. I chose to do a full charge from grid, and it took about 3kWh but jumped from 20% to 100% (and this is the 9kWh battery), so that's physically impossible. Discharge looked about right down from 100% to 4%. I'm trying again today to see if the charging profile makes more sense after that cycle.
I'm on firmware 3009.

The above pdf link is inaccessible now. Did a firmware update go out to all customers? My battery firmware revision is still showing as 3009.
I've seen a lot of discussion of newer firmware, and firmware updates on the portal, but I don't see any of this. Do I need to manually update firmware / how is that done?
stripwax 3009 is quite an old firmware.
Most people are on 3012. 3013 was released but had issues in the field (despite all the beta testing) and was pulled as a result.
Give GivEnergy support a call they should be able force an upgrade if you can’t do it via the portal. It will do a battery recalibration though; full discharge and charge
