Limiting battery charge

Hi - is there a way to only
Charge battery from solar to say 70% and then send rest to grid or a car - it would be similar to the smart charge but this time during day you set it to say 70%

It is certainly possible .We have proven that via local automations. It currently needs a bit of hand holding so I would not say its production ready yet.

This is a feature being activley worked on. keep an eye on the "whats new" in the portal to see what progress is being made.

We've just released an updated version of the beta portal which enables you to cap the charge and discharge rate of your battery.

This works on AC and DC (solar)

What this means is that if you limit your charge power to 50%, then any solar generation above that 50% be sent to other appliances or demand. This allows you to share your PV between your battery and home appliances.

Currently it is not possible (Or easy to access) to limit based on SOC. However this will be added in future developments.

@"Mickey (GivEnergy)"this does resolve the issue I've had with getting the Zappi to kick in, 2.5kw going into the battery during a charge cycle, 250w of background house use and the Zappi needing 1.4kw to leave it in full PV mode means my 6kw array will struggle to manage that. If I cap the battery to charge to 1kw it'll still charge before the end of the day and I can dump the rest into the car. That said it's a rare day this time of year when that will actually work!

It's all about keeping PV energy from going into the grid and using it locally instead, I only had the system installed in early September so despite some very good generation days I wasn't able to divert into the car until after the home storage battery had charged most days.

yandards If I understand it correctly this will do what you want, but not sure it is a resolution as such. A workaround at best.

Following on with the web update to limit battery charge SOC, we've also included the API version of charge and discharge rate using these endpoint /chargeRate and /dischargeRate to control your battery. We hope you'll find these useful.

There’s a very useful setting hidden deep in the zappi which will achieve what you’re after.
I’m not currently home, so can’t remember exactly where it is, but you need to go into advanced/ enter your PIN/ then I thinks it’s right to the bottom/ more settings?/then network.
Scroll down to ‘battery’ and enter.
Available settings should be:
Avoid charge
Avoid drain
Avoid both

‘Avoid charge’ prevents battery nicking the surplus.
‘Avoid drain’ prevents battery powering the zappi.
‘Avoid both’ does what it says on the tin.

These should solve your problem.

I've just checked, and the correct route to the 'Avoid' settings is:
Other settings / Advanced / Supply Grid / Network / Battery

I might start a separate thread on this, as it's not widely publicised, and for zappi operators with ESS, it's an important & handy feature.
