Hi. One of my inverters (Gen 1) is Red on the portal. Attempting restarts via the Portal fails.
How can I get it back up and running or is it a call to support? Lights are on on the front of the inverter showing it's connected.

When originally installed everything was fine.

Then a few weeks ago, totally out of the blue, we started getting communication issues

  • Lost Data
  • Inverter showing offline
  • Other weird things

I tried the easy things first - removing the dongle (you will need to undo a couple of phillips screws that should be holding it in) leave it unplugged for a couple minutes, then re-insert. Wait till the blue light goes from flashing to continually on.

This resolved the problem for a couple days then the issues started again.

Spoke to GE and they said "it's down to a loss/intermittent loss of communication to the dongle" despite nothing at all having changed.

Fortunately I had a spare Router that I could set up as close as possible to the Inverter/Dongle install location.

Have to say since then haven't had those issues.

The ONLY thing that had changed was the weather had started to get colder (inverter installed in unheated garage) so perhaps the dongle doesn't like the cooler temps....... and its far enough away from the original router connection to affect it.........

Just in case your not already on a time of use tariff........

IF you are already enjoying lower or fixed prices from another company then you SHOULD NOT switch.

IF you are paying the Standard Variable Government Capped Rates then you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD switch to Octopus, you will, at the very least, be in the exact same position but ready to switch as better rates become available.

AND IF YOU USE THE REFERRAL CODE BELOW YOU WILL GET £50 CREDIT JUST FOR SIGNING UP!!!

As soon as the switch over to Octopus has happened you can then switch Tariffs IF there is a better one for you.

You Can switch to Octopus Go even if you don't have an EV just tell them you have one or have one on order - thy don't really care and don't even ask you for a Registration - just a make and/or model.

If you want to switch to Octopus and see if you can make savings have a look at the tables below.

To sign up via the internet use code:
You will need look for the 'I don't care' options and you can eventually initiate an online switch.

Alternatively you can sign up vie phone just remember to quote "open-yak-351" instead.

If you use my referral code then you get £50 when you switch and I also get £50

Here's a comparison of Regional Rates and Government Capped Rates currently available (which expire April 2023)

TX200 Thanks . I used the instructions above to shut them both down and restart. Both are now in a yellow "Idle" state. How do I get them going again? Thanks for your help. I'm new to this and don't find it very intuitive.

Logon to the web portal, go to the my inverter page, click on settings.

Check the eco tab , check it is enabled.

Check the battery options and check the reserve isn’t set to something silly like 100%. Mine is on 4%

Also there check the charge and discharge power values.

Turn on timed charge via that tab if you want that feature and specify a percentage to be at at the end of the timed charge period.

Leave the timed discharge and export options off unless you really need those (it’ll turn off eco mode).

If all else fails, use the reset to defaults option and reset up the items listed above.

Just as a clarity thing - yellow idle state doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. It just means your inverter has nothing to do at the moment (because nothing is happening with the battery and there isn't any solar generation). If you're in eco, you'll likely find you're idle overnight. Or, for large parts of the day given the current weather 🌧☔⛈
