Hi,

The GivEnergy system installed by First4Solar matched with an eddi and Zappi is nothing short of amazing. First4Solar installed at the same time 3 other houses in the village (Friends of mine) and ... this is now the cruncher would all like to have a Domestic Wind Turbine to compliment the install.

Question:

Does GivEnergy either have in the future a solution :-) of a Domestic Wind Turbine in the wind ... excuse the pun.

Which if any out there does GivEnergy have knowledge of a successful install using the Hybrid Inverter and Battery.

Not entirely sure of your question as your post is worded strangely but - somewhere on here a few weeks back it was pointed out that wind generation could be fed into existing inverter (forget which one), and GivEnergy supports it. I will try find thread and post

Revised Question:

What MAKE / Solution of a Domestic Wind Turbine has been seen to be installed with a GivEnergy system.

The TESUP solution is one I found as an ill informed user of the system who has little Electrical knowledge - It would be great for a point in the right direction of an installed system ...

Have I missed anything !!!!

I don't know the answers, others will. I should clarify that the thread I linked to talks about how the wind generation can be tracked/measured through the givenergy inverter, not that you can use the inverter to take the wind generation and convert to AC.

So when I asked GivEnergy about this ages ago their AC3 inverter can monitor 2 input sources. Apparentl it does not have to be a pv source. So basically with whatever turbine you get just get whatever inverter it suggests, speak with GivEnergy and they can help or suggest what your electrician will need to do to be able to monitor the generation from it.

For a turbine you will most likely need planning permission due to its height etc so a lot more complicated and more expensive than solar. But do google tesup and youtube it as well. Basically branded a scam but a lot of youtubers.

That tesup looks sketch as anything. That it claims to pay for itself in a month and generates £130 of electric a day should be sounding alarm bells all over the place.

Even at 50p per kwh, that's 260kwh a day.

all the reviews say the turbine doesn't turn in high wind so... not sure they'll make those numbers 😆

godfreym He has more videos that most. But same story, barely breaks 1kw and replaced in less than 10 months.

He has a nice house though! Shame amount the metal tower for the turbine :-(

i have been chasing answers from GE. the short answer is their inverters cannot handle wind and PV:

We do support wind turbines, but they cannot be on the same system as one with solar as the start-up voltages are different. A wind turbine would require an independent inverter dedicated solely to the wind source. Similarly, you would also need a separate battery for the second system.

Quote frustrating as, even a small amount of wind would be such a good addition to a PV set up, to help with low production days and to top batteries up through the night.

I am going to continue my search. Most wind turbine companies provide suitable inverters for their products so it looks as though a parallel system is required. More expense and will take up more room that not everyone will have.

Out of curiosity I had a look at the User manual for the TESUP turbine, which gives a wind speed v power output plot.

The turbine only switches on at about 4m/s i.e. 9 miles/hour and the average UK wind speed is about the same (9 miles/hour) which suggests that most of the time this thing will barely start moving.

To get a "decent" output, say 50% of the max, you need about 11.5m/s or 26 miles/hour of wind (a fresh to strong breeze on the beaufort scale) which is not a regular occurance in the UK.

To get their peak output of 7kW you need 19m/s i.e. 42 miles/hour (which is a almost a strong gale)

I'm not sure how gusts etc. affect the turbines and they might make things better, but based on my "very rough" calcs I can't see you getting anywhere near the 7KW rated power output across a year and I'd be suprised if you got more than a few hundred W out on average. I suspect investment in 1 more solar panel would be a better way to go.

Would love to hear from someone who has one as to actual output being generated.

pez Those of us with an AC3 can do this. Separate inverter for the wind source and a meter from the AC3 to know when to charge etc. But the voltages are very different.

But planning permission and other issues for a turbine can make it expensive and complicated compared to PV.

I would love a turbine that would dish out a nice 1kw of power. But it would have to be almost silent in operation. Or invest in Ripple. https://rippleenergy.com?ogu=9601&rtrfn=Trevor-H

Thanks for the info. I am working with my neighbour to see if we can do a 'co-op' turbine that will help bolster our PV arrays (they have the same set up as us). would allow us to install something more meaty and share the cost out a bit!
