I have noticed there is an unsecured, open wifi network in my house and it looks like it's the GE inverter. The SSID is the same as the inverter ID.
The inverter is connected to the LAN so there is no need (I think) for he wifi network at all. Is there a way to turn this off? Gen 2 5kW Hybrid inverter.
ZmGahH6yQBe In that case there was no need for your installer to plug in the wifi dongle. Double check with GE support but you should be able to remove it.
Most people have the wifi option, and your installer is meant to follow the procedure and lock it after setup!

I had the same issue with my install. I just connected to the WiFi and set a password so no one else could screw with it.
I seem to have the same open wifi on a gen 1 5kw - do I need to fix it? Warning NOT an expert!

Can’t open 10.10.100.254. Everything is working fine. Just thought an open network was a bad idea and needs a password, or switching off?
SimonClarke That might be something the installer dashboard or ge support can do. Switching it off.
Tim Adams thanks, I went in and set security on the wifi and the admin interface.
Doesn't fill me with joy seeing that all of the passwords in the interface are stored in plain text.
SimonClarke if you're like me a using LAN just follow steps 1,2,7,8,9. But also during step 9 set an admin password that is secure. I would also ignore the advice in step 8 to set the password to the same as the inverter serial number as this is almost the same as the wifi network name so not very secure, just generate your own.
For some piece of mind, the dongles (and the Gen2 built in one I'm pretty sure is identical insides to the USB sticks anyway) have apparently been pen tested by a third party. Obviously that goes out the window if your installer has left it unprotected. There is a security thread on here if you have specific concerns.
(I do have my own test inverter I'm yet to really get stuck in to but there wasn't anything obvious you could do to them remotely without having physical access to it in the first place.)
Unfortunately step 2 doesn’t work/won’t open so I emailed support as I am loathe to break anything when it has been working properly
SimonClarke mine broke the first time I rebooted it. It stopped access to the inverter even through the LAN. It came back on by itself about 30 mins later and have reset itself to default settings so looks like it can sort itself out if needed.
Sometimes you might need to type http:// before the IP address in some browsers as it will be trying to do a google search for those number rather than loading the admin page.

If the wifi has been left open, the installer should come back and fix it.
Or the dongle guide on the KB will guide you through setting a SSID, Key and hiding it.
On Gen2, even remove the antenna and replace with a 50ohm load if thats what you wish to do.
The next gen of dongles, will be secure out the box (Like the EV charger) and SSID hotspot goes away completely after 2 mins if configured.
As I said I’m really not an expert! It helped a lot when I realised I had to connect my iPad to the dongles network…..now got a password and some sort of security. Just glad I didn’t do this in public…
SimonClarke yes, should be stressed... you must be on the dongle network before trying to access (not on your broadband/standard wifi network

Access your WiFi settings.
Select the WiFi network that matches the dongle serial number.
Click Connect when it is visible (ensure Connect automatically is ticked)

How would I go about doing this, is there a product I can buy? I'd rather have no wifi from it as I don't need it. I assume there is no way to disable it completely in the software?
