Hello Everyone,
Please can anyone explain what an 'Electric Meter Com Fail' error on the inverter means?
When it is warm and sunny, I get this every day. I can clear it by restarting the inverter but it recurs immediately until late in the day when it gets a bit cooler. I saw it a couple of times last summer, but not worth worrying about, nothing over winter and now this year it's been happening daily since the end of May. Thanks.
Electric Meter Com Fail

Check the connections on your em115 meter
RHardie
Sorry if I appear a bit thick, but which connections? The ones to the inverter or the ones to the CT or all?!

Caerefail check them all, 2 wires at the inverter end, 2 wires on the CT and 2 wires on the em115. it is also possible the wire between the em115 and the inverter is damaged. does it run outside of the property? if so i would check the installer used at least Cat6 cable and not some cheep cat5 which perishes in no time in rain and sunlight.
Take a read of this

Thanks for the comments and help.
RHardie Cat6 cable and not some cheep cat5
I think it's more to do with whether the cable is UV and water resistant than Cat5/6. If there's no UV/Water resistant cable available, (IMHO) running it in a small flexible conduit that is water and UV resistant would suffice.
Hello all, this saga is still continuing!
Contacted the installer, who sent an engineer out - the engineer replaced the EM115 with the latest GEM120CT but then installed the CT clip in the wrong place!
We corrected this (retired electrical engineer) but were still getting the error.
Contacted the installer again, who then passed the issue on to GivEnergy. Received a visit from a GivEnergy engineer who checked connections and, we think, replaced the cable from the GEM120CT to the inverter. However after he'd left we started to get some very weird data readings. Contacted GivEnergy tech support who were also stumped! It turns out that the engineer hadn't made sure the CT clamp connections were tight - the cables were loose so the meter couldn't read current flow accurately - you really couldn't write this as a script for what not to do!
We made good the connections (it was easier than getting someone out yet again!) and all the current readings now seem back to normal.
However, we have not had much bright sun for a prolonged period since the GivEnergy engineer visit - until yesterday. And guess what - you've got it - Electricity Meter Com Fail error!
It was only once and it cleared itself in 10 mins which seems to be an improvement but it looks as if something is still not right. We'll have to wait for another good sunny day to be sure there is still a problem, but if so, it's back to GivEnergy!
In Oct 2022 my installer twisted 2 pairs together and used them and all was fine for 4 months.
Brown/Brown-White. Blue/Blue-White
This post came out and so I separated the cores and just used two single strands. Brown and Blue.
I started getting errors almost straight away and went back to the original install and all been fine for 4 months.

SteveCook As I understand things, shouldn't it have single strands from the same pair ie. Brown and Brown/White or Blue and Blue/White - not single strands from different pairs?
I also tried that using blue and blue/white (found the photo I took at the time) and ended up going back to2 pairs.
Brown and brown/white coiled in background.

SteveCook Interesting!
SteveCook If you want to double up on the conductors but maintain twisted pairs for the sake of reducing noise and interference, use the solid-coloured insulation conductors in one terminal and the associated white-coloured conductors in the other terminal. eg Blue and Brown in the A terminal with Blue/White and Brown/White in the B terminal (obviously at both ends).
