I started a battery discharge at approx 17:52 tonight and it didnt work. The battery paused itself and the house ran on grid power negating the whole point of Octopuses saving session. At 18:04 i stopped it discharging but it continued to run on grid power and is still doing it at 18:13. Is this bug a known issue?

Sometimes the inverter can get confused. I’ve had it happen before. Doing a reset to defaults in the portal usually clears such issues

Marren2016 Each discharge slots has a minimum-SoC setting (depending on version). If that had got set to a high value, then it could behave as you describe - a timed discharge actually results in holding the battery, rather than discharging. And if you chose 'timed export' rather than 'timed discharge', or if you stopped it by turning off the 'timed discharge' flag, that would result in the eco flag being cleared, which would explain the subsequent behaviour. So it does very much depend on what version you are running, and exactly what controls you used.

DD i used the quick setting button on the bottom of the screen. Changing it back to 'play' did nothing, it continued to pause. Im on the latest firmware as far as im aware, not sure how i can tell what it is.

Marren2016 if you press the gears icon in the top-right of the screen, it show should the key settings such as discharge mode and power. That might give some clues.
Or on the portal, at the bottom of the remote-control page, there's a log of what changes have been made to the settings

DD looking at the inverter data the only upgrade i see is for the battery which is 4012 at present.

I tried to do another discharge tonight but it did it again, paused the battery.

Marren2016 Sorry, I don't remember suggesting an upgrade...

On the web portal, go to the inverter page. In the top-right corner, there's a row of 4 icons: a grid ("inverter data"), a tv screen? ("inverter information"), gears ("remote control") and a power button ("restart inverter"). Choose the third one. Then scroll down to the very bottom (or press "JUMP TO LOGS" in top-left corner), and that should have an activity log. Eg mine shows:

DD if the only upgrade on offer is for the battery then the inverter must be on the latest firmware.

Ive been into the garage and power cycled all the boxes and switches. Looks like its started behaving again. These things need to be reliable, if loads do it at the same time (start to import when the grid expects them to export it could, collapse the grid.

Marren2016 For savings sessions, it's usually more convenient to configure a timed discharge on app or portal, rather than manually pressing export and stop buttons manually at the required times.
(Indeed the snippet of log I showed above was me doing exactly that.) Works pretty reliably for me. Others seem to report that eco mode can get lost when doing this, but that's never happened to me (as long as you use timed discharge, not timed export).

I believe the "discharge now" button actually configures a timed discharge for the whole day. Then undo should try to put things back as they were. FWIW I don't use the quick settings button, and have it hidden from the app screen.

The quick settings button is a really useful tool when doing axles giveback or octos saving sessions. Its the onlytimes ive had a problem with it all winter. If you time an export the battery pauses, and the house is powered by the grid, whays the point in that.

I noticed similar, the event went on, the discharge was happening, but the inverter would reduce its power export or even generation and imported from teh grid at periods... it didn't make any sense when i'd told it to go full export.

Just come to look at it now and since going back to Eco its been mixing grid and battery seemingly randomly (still got plenty of battery left).

Triggered reset to see if that helps, its gone back to using the battery for now...

As above... an unwanted side effect of that is to turn off eco flag. Try timed discharge (or home demand, on the app). Despite the description, for me it's exactly the same as timed export, except that it leaves the eco flag on. But this is 3rd-gen hybrid inverter - I suspect it's different on other hardware, but I'm still waiting for someone to actually confirm behaviour on other systems/firmware.

My system is 1st gen inverter & 2nd gen battery, we do not have the EV charger.

On the 3rd party app it says export power 6000w, what does it mean? My inverter is 3.6kw but realistically its 2.6kw. As far as i am aware it can do 2.6kw from battery and 2.1kw from solar so where does 6kw come from?

Marren2016 It just means the installer didn't set a limit on the export because there's no need to. Your inverter (like mine) can't supply more than 3.6kW ac which is the limit for G98 installs anyway.

I don't know where you got the idea of "2.1kw from solar" from? Each string has a 2.8kW limit but the G1 3.6 inverter can take 4.7kW dc total from PV, provided it has somewhere to dump it - ie the battery plus home load plus export.

Vestas i got the info from a member of a different forum. He said in total it can output those figures i mentioned. If it can manage 2.8kw why does my battery max out at 2.5kw? When i do a full export the maximum I get through the smart meter is 2.0kwh (with router, a fridge, a freezer & a 4w lamp being on) its never been higher than 2.0kw. My house cant be pulling more than 150w (more like 80w) at idle.

2.8kW is per PV input String and is not related to the battery. The battery charge/discharge rate is nominally 2.6kW but in reality it is somewhat less about 2.42kW for an AC charge 2.6 for PV charge, 2.55kW discharge. Part of this is to do with conversion from AC to DC and vice versa.
I think if you had a gen 3 Inverter you would get 3.3kW charge rate and 3.6kW discharge rate.

If you aren't exporting any PV at the same time then 2kW is pretty good going - 2.55 from the battery, less conversion losses less house load could take it down to 2kW quite easily. I very rarely get above 1.9 kW export with a house load of 240W. I've exported at 3.4kW in the summer when I've plenty of solar as well.

Vestas i dont understand what you mean by this comment. If its beta wouldnt it be unsafe to set fast responce, if thats what you mean. Or do u mean fast responce from GE support team?
