Battery timed charging problems

Can anyone tell me why my timed charge has not been working properly for the last few weeks.

My system is set to charge the battery to 100% every night between 00:01 and 04:59 (British gas EV driver rate). This has worked perfectly for over a year. But recently some nights it's not charged at all (like last night) other times it's charged but to a much lower percentage (it then holds at this until the end of the charge period) and other nights it works as expected.

heywoodstephen It's odd that it works intermettently... if it didn't work at all, it might have suggested some setting had changed.
What sort of system do you have? Do you use any external agents (home assistant, wonderwatt, API scripts, ..?)

DD I have 5kwh gen 1 hybrid inverter and an 8.3kw gen1 battery,
I do have home assistant setup, with predbat set to monitor at the moment, but I would also have expect to see something in the system log if it has made a setting change.
According to the inverter axle made some changes for the DFS yesterday, but looking at the settings everything appears normal.

heywoodstephen Might be one of those occassions when a reset-to-defaults is worth trying. I think the gen-1 hybrid has a relatively small number of settables, so there's not as many ways for things to go wrong as in the later ones. (Eg later ones have multiple discharge timers and timed pauses that aren't visible from the app or the normal settings area.)

I will see how we go tonight.

heywoodstephen FWIW I wouldn't be waiting... I'd be seeing if I can trigger a charge at arbitrary times to look for patterns. If you drop the charging power down the minimum, and only charge for a minute or two, the cost is minimal.

On closer inspection it is mostly "charging" during the set charge period.
The problem is it's supposed to charge to 100%, last night it discharged down to 43% but then held at that until the end of the charge period. The previous night (Thursday) it charged up to 43% then held until the charge period ended.
Wednesday it discharged to 4%.
On Tuesday night it charged to 73% then held at that until the end of the charge period.
So other than Wednesday it does appear to be charging just not to the right set point.

heywoodstephen that's interesting... I didn't think would apply to gen-1 inverters, but on my gen-3 I've discovered (still need to double check) that there are two charge-limut registers. Unfortunately the one the app/portal controls is not the one the inverter actually uses. But it's a consequence of having multiple charging slots, but I think gen-1 only has one.

In case inverter has got out of sync with app/portal, could try setting limit to some random number, then back to 100% - that should force them back into sync.

DD that is very much like what I did when it only charged to 73%, in fact I probably set it to about 40%.
Last night I decided to put predbat into active mode rather than monitor. I am pleased to say it charged to 100%. I am not sure if this was due to predbat or just coincidence.

DD do you know if there is a way of reading the charge limit it actually uses?

heywoodstephen The remote control page should show all the registers available. Or the API.

My remote control page shows one charge limit on the top 'enable' section, and then further down there's the section showing the multiple charge slots, and each of those (including the 1st) has its own limit. I just had to experiment to find which one was set through the app, and which one was used by the inverter.

See https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/3650-understanding-the-settings-on-your-app-and-portal - near the bottom of the long post, it shows one slot but says there are 10 available.
