Around 26th March GivEnergy support upgraded the firmware on my two Gen 1 hybrid inverters, its been a few weeks now so here’s a brief update on the firmware.
My gen 1’s are manufactured week 37 2022, so are not the ‘old’ Gen 1’s.
The original issue I was seeing was that I couldn’t get the two inverters to discharge reliably at the same time. This was particularly noticeable during the DFS savings events but happened at other times; both inverters would start discharging at 2.6kW then one would reduce the discharge rate, sometimes to 0, sometimes to 1.5kW. Seemed to be random as to which inverter backed off like this. I have no export limit and on sunny days the two inverters would happily pump out max power to the grid, it was just force discharging the issue occurred.
GivEnergy upgraded me to D0.191-A0.193 but this isn’t listed on the Gen 1 firmware list, apparently because its not yet “had a full portal release”.
In terms of fixing the issue In terms of using the firmware it worked great, I was getting consistent discharges from both inverters at full power. In fact it appeared that I was getting slightly higher discharge than the nominal 2.6kW inverter limit, it was discharging at 2.67kW today and I’ve sometimes seen it even higher.
GivEnergy support says that the firmware gives faster reaction speed to grid changes and the ability to output more than the inverter battery demand as it equates for conversion loss before capping the battery.
So all good for a couple of weeks. I then suffered what’s referred to here as the “click of death” https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/2981-battery-failure/10
The 9.5 battery that was connected to one of my inverters was turned off. I turned it on again, there was some rapid internal clicking inside the battery, the green status light turns red and the battery turns off again. If I turn the power breaker on the side of the battery off the battery will stay on OK which apparently indicates a problem with the inverter, likely the battery board.
A GivEnergy engineer is due to come later this week to fix the inverter problem. Has been suggested that “it could have been due to the increased reaction speed of the inverter on this firmware. If the battery board wasn't the strongest the extra demand could have made the component fail”.
Or this could just have been a coincidence 🤷♂️
