Ive intentionally been holding off of upgrading the FW on both my inverter and batteries.
However this morning ive just had an alert to say an upgrade is underway.
12kwh of stored energy wasted, not impressed.
Anyone else had this.?
It's possible it was an accidental thing - a command misunderstood by the system (see that sometimes with calibrations - not sure a firmware update could kick off in similar circumstances - maybe).
It's also possible it is your installer being proactive.
Or GivEnergy themselves.
A heads up would always be nice with these things! Or user choice / user delay option!
But it might not be GivEnergy themselves.
The remote control log on the portal might shed some light on what happened.

I had a forced battery firmware a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't calibrate. I chose to update inverter, since there's seemed to be a new 309 available (gen-3 hybrid), but in fact it only went to 307. (But it is now offering me yet another firmware update...)
No recalibration cycle for inverter firmware update either.
Gen1 Hy5.0 and 9.5 battery 3015 D0.450-A0.451

Is this the long promised Gen 1 upgrade?

I've only taken a look at this customer's system since inverters don't update by themselves. We don't force upgrades unless you're informed or started by someone that commissioned the system

We recommend customers are on the latest version at any time. I'd say give support a ring if you're unsure

I have read the KB links you posted above, but according to both of them I am on the latest inverter and battery versions, so why is my portal telling me to do an update?
Mickey (GivEnergy) Mickey - relating to this firmware upgrade... I've done one this morning, but it looks like a downgrade - it went from D0.450-A0.451 down to 499. I've emailed support about it cos it doens't seem right that it would do a downgrade to a multi-year older firmware.
Reason I bring this up, cos this upgrade could be the same as my downgrade this morning. (also gen1 hybrid)

You're right, that is very weird. I'll forward this up with the team as 450-451 is the latest and pressing that button will downgrade it. Thanks all!

Just got an email back from Givenergy and told if I click update it will return the batteries to default Givenergy firmware from the EON hacked firmware I currently have (4001)
This will be thinking that battery firmware needs updating as the firmware you have on your batteries is EON firmware that allows 100% Depth of Discharge from 5.2kwh batteries
So, does that mean I shouldn't update ?
That is entirely up to yourself, if you update to the latest your battery would be 80% depth of discharge as manufacturer standard meaning you would get 4.1kwh usable

simont The wording there references the inverter beeping /f lashing. The wording on the battery is different and also often suggests it will do a calibration cycle (discharge / fully charge)

I ran the update but it only updated the inverter and the battery update failed. Its been failing for a long time and I need to update manually.

to
D0.449-A0.449
Wonder what I just lost in downgrading....
sammoj Interesting, did you have a custom build 499? 450/451 is the latest publically published one?
TimI Yes, it was to fix the problem of the inverter ignoring the Reserve limit. I guess I have that fault back with this downgrade...luckily not using that feature at the moment.

simont Was inverter firmware not battery. My battery is on 3015 which I think is the latest for the 9.5/5.2
simont The question i have is how did you end up with "EON hacked" firmware ? Unless you, your installer or GE were aware this version was being applied then it sounds like there is a security problem some where. And how does using non GE firmware impact warranty etc ? Or do GE provide kit which companies like EON put their branding on ?
Maxwell EON missold the batteries as 100% depth of discharge.
GivEnergy released a special version of the firmware to achieve a greater depth of discharge - but not everyone thinks that's a good idea (harder on the battery, might not last as long?).
Customers I believe had the choice to move to the new eon firmware. Some are seeking damages for the misselling.

TX200 is correct, I was one of the unlucky EON customers who were missold. I took it to the ombudsman and won and they soon will be replacing my 2x 5.2 batteries with 2 new 5.2 batteries and a 2.6 battery to make up the capacity. Not ideal but best they'll do.
Oh, I chose not to have the hacked firmware but they "accidentally" applied it anyway
simont My battery is still on 3008 hence the option to update it but the remote update keeps failing. Need to do it manually at some point!

205?! thats massively old if we're talking about 499/450/451.
I've asked them to put me back onto 450-451 that I was on before this started. I still don't accept the system decided the other firmware would better suit our usage.
I have GE3.0 AC coupled inverter linked to two 8.2 kWh batteries.
Other comments refer to hybrid.
I have a firmware update button this morning. My battery firmware, 3015 is most recent (I think). Inverter firmware is ancient: AC coupled (D535-A535) - 12/05/2022

I am holding off. It would be better is we were told more about what the firmware update is and whether it applies to inverter, battery, or both.

TimI Thanks. I have just phoned GE and they tell me that for me this update is for my AC inverter and not battery. They also assure me that there will be no calibration.
The upgrade will be to v205 from my current 535.
I have had a look at knowledge base and will ponder whether to update. My system is working reliable, albeit for some BMS over voltage notifications. These always occur after a big battery cycle, say from 4% to 100% and then only at the final 98-100% stage. The over voltage is marginal and clears quickly and I have assumed 'it is one of those things'.
So do I upgrade?

Only you can answer that then. Personally I like to keep firmwares updated on devices when they include security and other underlaying updates as well as the actual code changes. But this looks like just feature cahnges.
I personally want the fast-response firmware on the Hybrid Gen1's.

The firmware update has now completed. I was worried when it was taking ages to write registers but I am now on v205 on my AC3.0 inverter. It is such a relief when an update finishes.
It seems to be working OK so fingers crossed. It will be good if I do pick up some fast response times.

Installed the update on my AC3, now I'm on D0.205-A0.205, all went well, phew
simont Bad luck in being sold a duffer. Good you got it sorted. When i saw the term "hacked" software i thought it was a reference to some malicious code rather than a legitamate bit of code. You have to imagine that if you can't trust the vendor to get their product operation correct then who can you trust. But, if against their better judgment sold out to commercial pressure from 3rd parties then compensation is the price they pay.
