Hi

I am on Octopus Intelligent Go (7.4p / kWh 23.30-05.30) and Outgoing Octopus where I get paid 15p. I have a high battery capacity and have set to charge to 100% from the grid during off peak hours. My array currently charges the battery back up to 100% during the day and then exports to the grid. We charge the car and use washing machine during off peak. My battery capacity means that I never seem to go below 70% during the evening. How do I set the inverter so that I export more during the day, rather than fill up the batteries?

KeithMersh1955RuthMary1971 There are several ways you could get what you want, the easiest may be to set a pause charge on the batteries for most of the time during the day to stop the batteries charging up

KeithMersh1955RuthMary1971 Sounds very similar to my setup.

Simplest, as long as your inverter supports it, is to simply pause battery-charging. It's not available through the app or the normal settings part of the inverter, but you can access it through the 'remote control' part of the portal. You're looking for pause start and end times, and the pause mode.

However, if solar capacity is greater than the inverter max AC output, this can cause clipping on sunny days. That can be handled by adjusting max charging power, to control how much goes to battery, with the rest going to the grid. (Pausing charging is more or less equivalent to setting charging power to 0.)

Sorry if I'm missing something, but why not just export some surplus to the grid from your battery/s in the evening @ 15p/kW?

Stu131 it's a bit more efficient to export solar directly than to fill the battery then export from there - avoids some of the conversion losses.

I’ve left Solar charging to 100% and set inverter to discharge to 50% from 17.30 to 19.30 but for some reason DC discharge lower limit is showing as “Inverter Timeout” What have I done wrong and how do I fix? Thanks for your help. Appreciated.

Sorry for being a Numpty!! When I try to set charge or discharge schedules upper or lower SOC limits there’s a pop up saying “you must read the value First “ it’s when I click the refresh button on Discharge 1 that I get the Inverter Timeout warning. I then reset the inverter to clear the warning but then lose the Limits I’ve set (but not the start and end times) resulting in likely full discharge during those times.

KeithMersh1955RuthMary1971 What model/firmware is your inverter. Not all inverters support the discharge lower limit setting.
