Back in May I set up Timed Discharge (TD) on my Gen1 inverter for 6-7pm to take advantage of Octopus peak export pricing.

After the app update on June 21 the TD option disappeared and only Timed Export (TE) was available but TD was still working. On July 25th we had a dull day and I wanted to disable the TD. The only way to do this seemed to be to enable TE and then enable Eco. After this I was stuck with manually enabling TE and then Eco if I wanted to discharge during peak time.

About 10 days ago I updated the inverter software to 205 and was surprised to find at 6pm that day that the battery was discharging and at 7pm it stopped and reverted to Eco, so it seems that TD had somehow been re-enabled.

After another dull day recently I wanted to disable the invisible TD function and had to use TE to do so and after that had to revert to manually using TE whenever I wanted to export.
Yesterday after setting TE for 6-7pm I reverted to Eco at about 6:55 but noticed that although Eco was accepted (also confirmed in the log) the battery was still discharging. I tried everything I could think of including a setting to defaults, enabling and disabling Timed Charge etc all to no avail. The only functionality I had was battery options so I set the discharge rate to 200W and battery reserve to 25%.
This morning the battery level was 17% and still discharging and all solar power was going to the grid i.e. the battery was not charging.

Fortunately GivEnergy staff were working on this Bank Holiday and were able to diagnose the problem - the inverter had somehow gone into Calibration mode. They cancelled the calibration and everything returned to normal.

Has anybody else had any similar experiences?
It would be really good if GivEnergy could reinstate the TD functionality.

There’s other threads on Timed DIscharge, but in essence it was removed from the app because Gen 2 and Gen 3 timed discharge worked as per the manual but the Gen1 timed discharge didn’t work the same way. It was removed to stop customers getting confused.

I thought it had only been removed in the app but was still available in the portal, but looking now, I can’t see it for my Gen 1 inverters.

CFPygall the three modes eco, timed-discharge, timed-export were just different combinations of two underlying flags - that's why they were interacting in the way you describe.
There have definitely been reports of inverters spontaneously going into calibration mode when changing these modes. I can't remember who - perhaps @Vestas ?
Newer firmwares have enabled crc-checking on low-level Comms which might have fixed this.

Not me. I don't touch anything on the app or portal now as neither work properly with 191/193 f/w (and frankly the portal can't be trusted now anyway so is useless unless you have to change firmware).

I never found the names of the Timed Discharge and Timed Export particularly illuminating and the wording in knowledge-base article (https://kb.givenergy.cloud/article.php?id=7) was not helpful either. The wording attached to the modes in the app and portal is now much clearer and the explanation in the What'sNew of 21/6/2024 on the app is good.

I think it would make things much more intuitive to have one Timed Discharge/Export mode with the option within that mode to have Eco enabled/disabled.

Not sure I agree - timed-discharge doesn't make much sense with eco turned off.

I've never understood why GE ever described these as "modes" - to me, modes mean you choose exactly one of them to be in, whereas in fact they're all (now) independent settings. You can have both a timed-discharge and a timed-export configured at the same time, and they operate independently. And of course you've always been able to enable a timed-charge indepdendently of all the other settings. It's just that the UI behaves a bit weirdly and may or may not change eco mode when you enable timed-export.

[This is with the new behaviour of timed-discharge. With the old behaviour, yes, I agree - timed-discharge and timed-export were the same thing, and the only difference between them was the setting of the eco flag.]
