I have a G3 hybrid inverter, and the option to upgrade the firmware to D0.315-A0.315 has appeared. I can't find any release notes for this release. Does anyone have info about it? Thanks.

#2 arczi19

No info, but I have the same option. Don't think I will be risking it any time soon though!

I agree, I'm holding off. My battery still only discharges at 1.8kw after last battery software update. This is for temps below 20c apparently to Keep battery safe. Had I known this I'd have purchased differently probably.

D
#4 DD

[unknown] I thought it was only charging that was constrained at low temp, not discharge?

S
#5 Slarti

Mines the discharge also.
I have tried calling the helpline about ten times now. They never answer the phone.
Gen 3 hybrid 3.6
Gen 2 9.5 battery installed about 8 months ago

Thought about forcing a recal but can't see how in the on-line portal or app.

Ive just updated mine (5kW) kept repeating the same ARM upload then went through, said it would reboot which it did, had a flashing red and green light, then all went red and started beeping. thought oh s*(& its failed then a few minutes later all kicked back into life and a sucessful update. Dont know what its improved as cant find a change log anywhere yet.

#7 hoggy

Presumably similar to Gen2 stuff, which was basically enabling Realtime Control. I guess if anyone is brave enough to do it and then head over to their remote control page they'll probably see a new setting to enable it?

[unknown] Thanks! Looks like the 919 firmware is a response to register writes from 3rd party battery balancing scripts. I'm interested in that as a Predbat user, without going in to the depths of Speak To The Geek's clickbaiting. Even though 919 was beta only I assume it means the changes are in 920. Pretty poor that it comes down to forum users instead of proper Giv announcements or data.

#14 hoggy

Lincs_Will I asked if the RealTime control announcement would be put here & weirdly the answer was no, so while I'm at it I guess:

Real-Time Control Update for Inverter Users
We’re introducing Real-Time Control, designed to optimize your inverter’s performance under high-demand conditions. Here’s what you need to know:
🔹 When to Enable Real-Time Control:
Only enable Real-Time Control if your inverter is expected to receive a higher-than-normal volume of write commands. This feature helps extend the longevity of your device memory but comes with a risk of losing settings in the event of a power loss.
🔹 What is Considered a Normal Volume?
A normal write volume is defined as one write command every seven minutes. Writing to any other register at a higher frequency may invalidate your warranty under the fair usage clause.
🔹 Firmware Versions & Compatibility:
The following inverter firmware versions support Real-Time Control. (Note: Gen1 is currently in beta testing.)
Device Type Code Model DSP Version
0x3001AC3 210
0x2003 Gen1 3.6kW (Beta) —
0x2002 Gen1 4.6kW (Beta) —
0x2001 Gen1 5kW (Beta) —
0x2003 Gen2 3.6kW 920
0x2002 Gen2 4.6kW 920
0x2001 Gen2 5kW 920
0x2003 Gen3 3.6kW 315
0x2002 Gen3 4.6kW 315
0x2001 Gen3 5kW 315
0x8001 AIO 6kW 616
🔹 Safe Registers for Real-Time Control:
The following registers are considered safe for use when Real-Time Control is enabled:
API Giv TCP Register Name
17 20 Enable AC Charge Upper Limit (Winter Mode)
24 27 Enable Eco Mode (Battery Power Mode)
47 50 Inverter Active Power Rate
53 56 Battery Discharge 1 Start Time
54 57 Battery Discharge 1 End Time
56 59 Battery Discharge Enable Switch
64 94 AC Charge 1 Start Time
65 95 AC Charge 1 End Time
66 96 AC Charge Enable Switch
71 110 Battery Reserve % Limit
72 111 Battery Charge Power
73 112 Battery Discharge Power
75 116 Winter Mode Cut SOC
96 318 Battery Pause
155 319 Battery Pause Start (Unavailable in AC3)
156 320 Battery Pause Stop (Unavailable in AC3)
⚡ Reminder: Misuse of Real-Time Control settings may lead to warranty issues.

You will generally have to wait for the Firmware update to appear, and you will see in your remote control settings enable RTCL click it to set it on or off.

Firmware update was available when I looked at 23:00, so I clicked the button:
It took around 20 minutes.

#16 NickC84

Slarti Are you running battery firmware 3019? I have the same set up as you and that fixed it

L
#17 Leeshore

I updated my 3.6 hybrid gen 3 OK. Needed two goes at the update though. I'm only doing an average of 65 writes a day with predbat so I presume don't need to activate real-time control.

L
#18 Leeshore

Slarti I have same setup as you and have no issues even with most up to date software. On the control panel is the discharge rate correctly set at 3600W?

S
#19 Slarti

Hi thanks all for the help I am on all the latest software etc.
Used the on-line chat earlier and was told it's normal to do this too protect the battery. Then tried the phone support and spoke to Andy, wow spot on chap very good service m He looked into the issue and agreed there was something wrong. He and a colleague believe they found a dc setting that maybe wrong deep in the online menu. Looks like all is good.
Perhaps the new chap at the top is pushing customer service? Either way I cannot fault Andy.
I'll update you all later when I monitor it as I'm not at home as this may help others.
Thumbs up for support both here and Andy

Hi my 9.5 battery is 3017

How do I update this? Only option I found was to update the inverter

A
#21 ADO

Hi all just updated to 315 on 5kw gen 3 hybrid inverter with a 9.5 battery on 3017 firmware and the battery hits 100% but keeps charging at around 54w and has been for about an hour anyone else noticed this or is it just me. Been online with chat but they say it’s all ok. Is this something they have added in to the update

W
#22 wrighar

[unknown] The next public general release version of BMS is going to be 3020, and soon, 3017 was the previous public released version.

S
#24 Slarti

Another update,

That hasn't worked unfortunately. I'm home and the battery will not supply house over 1.8 KW.
I'll email support.

Thanks for the update. What will this give us? Will it help this issue I'm having.

F
#26 Fridgeman

ive got a strange issue since updating, the batteries will not charge higher than 10w so woke up to an empty battery, tried resetting the inverter but even forcing a charge i only get 10w

#27 hoggy

There's 2 power sliders on the web portal remote control page.
One is charge / discharge power in Watts
The other is charge / discharge power in %.

Refresh both values and ensure they are set to whatever you normally have them set to as a start as it might be that. The % one only impacts AC charge (so it's normally that if your having weirdness like not charging overnight but charging from solar fine)

F
#29 Fridgeman

a guy on facebook group says its probably lost a registry setting for grid value, will have to wait for Giv to do there stuff

T
#30 TX200

ADO sounds normal, it's probably just trying to find the true(ISH) 100% based on voltages.

T
#31 TX200

Fridgeman could be grid import limit. If it'll charge fine from solar (assuming you have solar) then yep probably that.

Mine had a similar problem. It was a corrupted registry entry (unexpected value) which holds that setting.

N
#32 NormC

I did the upgade this evening. Everything thing went okay. It had disabled my charge slots by resetting all times to 00:00. I checked all the settings and it had also reset the Battery Charge Power to 3600W. I set this to zero to stop the battery charging to early from solar, as I can get clipping between 11am and 1pm.

#33 hoggy

Fridgeman your battery cutoff % is 100% so that means it'll never use the battery, is that your intention?
I'm unsure if that stops charging dead as well but worth a shot?

F
#34 Fridgeman

TX200 looking at my graphs on the app this looks like the likely candidate as it did charge at full solar power this afternoon. thanks

F
#35 Fridgeman

hoggy that was probably me trying different settings. thanks for the help

F
#36 Fridgeman

its currently giving the battery 27W, may take a while to charge

A
#37 ADO

TX200 the battery was at100% for over 4 hours and never once went to idle constantly charging will give it a day or so and then try support it never did this before the update
Thanks for the reply

F
#38 Fridgeman

ADO Paul from Giv has fixed it, a few register entries didn't get written after the update, some others have had the same issue on the FB group.

#39 hoggy

Fridgeman does the remote control log thing on the portal indicate which ones at all?
Edit: never mind, think it's the new import limit one set to 0A doing it.

F
#40 Fridgeman

hoggy grid import limit setpoint and then enabled, ct direction and RTC enabled were the 4 that got added/changed. Also noticed in the app before the changes that the inverter status was unknown

A
#41 ADO

Fridgeman hi do I need to do anything as mine is still the same hit 100% at 12 at is still charging

S
#42 Stoo

ADO yeah mines been doing the same since upgrade. appears to be working fine but getting alternating periods of 150W discharge 50W charge pretty much constantly (since 7am today for example through to now) when I've got solar generation and the battery is at 100%. shows up as a constant zig-zag above and below neutral whereas before battery graph would sit basically flat at idle when full and exporting solar. my G2 9.5 battery is still on 3017 so maybe that's got an update coming soon

A
#43 ADO

[unknown] hi I have been in touch with support who are trying to fix the issue I had to call them as the online chat person just said the everything was ok but he said it wasn’t and shouldn’t be like that. I have had to leave it with them as Paul is out of the office and he will have to wait for him to get back in. So it might be best to give them a call. Hope it all goes well for you

#44 Midlands_Solar

I upgraded yesterday, and so far so good

N
#45 NormC

After the successful update yesterday evening it wouldn't do an export this morning. Tried everything I could think of including setting all the different time slots. Also noted that it wouldn't charge at more than 2100w. Got in touch with my installer who got in touch with Giv and they sorted it out. They also upgraded the battery firmware to 3019. They said that they had had a few problems with 3017. I have tried to do a timed export and it is working now.

L
#46 Leeshore

@ADO #p79069 Yeah mine is doing the same thing - it's also charging at 54w as well. Did you find out anything more about this?

A
#47 ADO

Leeshore hi just looked and mine is now ok. Had to call support and they have installed 3019 to the battery firmware as I was previously on 3017 so all looks fine now as it’s been on 100% and now says idle instead on charging at 54w

M
#49 M_J

Interesting that they are giving the release to installers but not a general release...

I think I will wait until it's been released fully and wait for feedback on its effect...

Good to know I can download the file directly.

Thanks for the link

T
#50 TX200

M_J I think it is being rolled out to the public already, just on a slow release to make sure no extra bugs are found that weren't seen in alpha or beta testing.

There's an interesting way to update the battery software too now. Can do it via the inverter dongle (or USB lead to computer on gen3) if the update has a specific name (can't recall the details) the inverter will realise it's a battery update and it'll tell the battery to update.

Sounds much better than taking the battery cover off!

#51 hoggy

TX200 to be fair that's essentially how the battery updates from the portal work. Dongle fetches it and passes to bms (given the bms has no comms directly to the outside world to handle fw updates)
That said I don't know the filename if it's anything other than the normal one for loading directly via USB.
Can't quite recall the battery to battery update works, think it passes it from one to the other one by one.

Those batteries with the USB port external near the MCB I'd still probably do that way to save an extra step of the dongle > battery.

Good news, my low discharge rate has now been sorted. Basically I'm now on BMS 3019 working spot on so far and supplies full output when required now.
Thanks for the support here.

Upgraded (against my better judgement) and as expected, problems... I've got 3 batteries and 2 are still at 100% and the primary is the only one discharging (almost empty). Also post upgrade I had the battery constantly charge discharge once it was 100%. Looks like another call to GivEnergy and asking them for a battery re-calibration. Just painful. Avoid unless you need to is what I'd say.

#57 ChrisLav

Updated about an hour ago. Took 16 mins total, and seems to be working OK. I went through all the RC registers and 'read' them. Some of the charge settings had been lost - times and charge rates - but simple job to reinstate them. Will check whether they actually operate in about 10 mins, when the first charge rate starts!
To be continued...

OK - first charge rate started OK. I won't be staying up to check on the others, though. 🙂 It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night when the clocks go forward. I understand the smart meter stays on UTC, but presumably if the inverter is synced to BST then I'll need to change the charge settings to keep within the cheap rate range...

devonguyuk Looks like another call to GivEnergy and asking them for a battery re-calibration

BTW you can kick off a calibration yourself from the web controls, specific time as you wish. But once set it's going to happen as you can't cancel it. So make sure you set the right time...

N
#59 NormC

devonguyuk I had problems with my battery after I upgraded. Giv updated the battery firmware to 3019. They said that they had had problems with 3017. I'm not sure what to make of 3019 yet. My battery went over voltage yesterday and ended up at full capacity. I did a forced export early this morning and it went down to 10% at 44v. It stayed there for 90 minutes and then dropped to 1%. It started grid charging at 260w until it reached 4%. It has been charged up to full again this afternoon, but did not go over voltage again.

D
#60 devonguyuk

Thanks M_J @NormC for the input 🙂.
My Capacity under My Inverter>General>Battery Capacity showed 3 batteries (186 Ah | 9.52 kWh | (3 Packs)) but only the capacity of the Primary (9.5KWh Gen2). I re-calibrated last night, but this only re-calibrated the Primary Battery, the other 2 were still at 100% on the App. Thanks to the sun and some grid energy I charged to 100% today and managed to get the 2nd Battery (5.2KWh Gen1) to start showing in Battery Capacity (288 Ah | 14.75 kWh | (3 Packs)), the 3rd, still isn't showing ( 5.2KWh Gen1). The good news, however, is that the inverter is now pulling energy from 3rd Battery (I finally got the 3rd to have a voltage within the tolerance of the other 2). Let's see what a final calibration does to it. Fingers Crossed. I'll most likely reach out and see if I can get 3019 as 3017 has never been perfect (constantly export 50W).

S
#61 Slarti

arczi19
Yep looks like the same issues as you had.
My battery works fine but will not drain down past 14% now. For now I'll stick at this because it's better than the alternative to be honest. Hopefully when 3020 comes out it will fix that.

D
#62 devonguyuk

To update. I managed to get the 3rd Battery to show in total capacity last night/this morning. It finished calibrating and all batteries were at 100%. However, the batteries were constantly charging/discharging at 153W/839W while the sun was up. This evening, I have had another look and the 3rd battery has now "left" the Battery Capacity (showing 3 batteries but capacity of only 288 Ah | 14.75 kWh). Checking the voltages, the 3rd battery is now showing as having a voltage of 1.1V more than the other 2. I had this previously a year or so ago, but this latest inverter firmware seems to have caused it again.... GivEnergy call tomorrow!

D
#64 devonguyuk

FYI all. The FW upgrade fixed the problem. It’s still not perfect (the batteries seem to discharge at different rates looking at percentages in the night. But definitely better. Looks like D0.315-A0.316 is out now… so I’ll see how everyone gets on with that 😃
