I have two 3.6K Gen 2 hybrid inverters and I upgraded both to 920 last night. Both upgrades seemed fine. But this morning I'm seeing odd behavior with one of them. ED215G169 seems to be refusing to do a full charge when one is programmed. If I set the timed charge to be on and covering the current time the battery charges but only using any surplus solar energy. I would expect it to go to the full 3600W charge pulling the necessary extra from the grid. Thats what it always did before. I've reset to factory defaults, tried both a soft restart and hard power down/up cycle and nothing has worked. Before I contact the installer has anyone got any suggestions of what I could try?

BarryForde perhaps there's an upper charge limit which inhibits AC charging, but not solar? Could try changing the limit slightly to force a write

DD I've tried changing the charge power level down from 3600W to levels below the available solar at say 286w and the inverter tracks those changes so long as they fall below the available solar energy. But setting it above the available solar leaves the charging topped out at the available solar. It seems as if the unit simply wont bring any grid power into play. My other inverter is working correctly and the only difference between the two is the wonky one is EPS enabled, the working one isnt. But I cannot see how that would affect things. Any other ideas? I'm stumped!

BarryForde I have seen other people reporting problems with not being able to achieve full charge rate after a firmware update. Think it required givenergy support to change some inverter settings

geoffreycoan Thanks for that info. I'll see what happens overnight when my batteries usually charge (IOG) and if nothing changes I'll contact GE and see what they say. I was hoping it might be something I could fiddle and avoid a long wait in a call queue!

BarryForde Any other ideas?

I meant the upper SoC limit, rather than the charging power limit. (Does gen-2 have that setting on the AC charging ?)

DD It has a "set AC charge upper % limit" but its turned off. The thing thats being limited is the rate of charge rather than the limit to which it is being charged so I dont think thats the problem? But thanks for coming up with ideas, I'm out of them!

BarryForde that's one way to interpret your observation. But can't you also say it's not using any grid to charge.

DD yes thats right

Sounds like the issue some other Gen inverters are having after updating. The new "Grid Import Limit" register gets set to 0A so it won't pull anything from the grid.
Support can fix but as its not a register mapped to the portal or in GivTCP it will be a support fix I'm afraid.

hoggy Thanks for that info. I contacted support this morning and they are having a look. So hopefully will be fixed soon.

I tried to update my gen2 inverter last night to 920 but as usual only the D side updated and now it won't charge overnight despite making sure the charge/export settings are set correctly. Awaiting GE support to send me the update so I can do it locally (as usual)

Ortwin I'm still waiting for support to get back to me about that problem. Looks like they have a big backlog of calls?

I phoned GE support who sent me the ARM 920 file and managed to upload it. Reset the inverter and all was good so I thought. I then adjusted the inverter settings e.g. charge/discharge times and power levels, however it has not charged overnight between 02:00 - 05:00 again (28w). So it's back to GE support today to see what they can do.

Ortwin may not be relevant, but 28W is what I see on G3 hybrid when pause is in effect.

I managed to get the online chat to technical working this morning and after 20+ minutes of GE technical fiddling with the settings and rebooting the system all is hopefully working. Let's see if it will import tomorrow morning.

After reading this I think I'll hold off updating my 3.6kW Hybrid Gen 2 firmware. My previous firmware has been fine so I don't want to upset the apple cart.
What's different or better with the 920 firmware?

If your system has upgraded correctly in the past, I don't see an issue with upgrading your system to the latest release. I have heard of systems that are several versions off the latest release having issues and needing to be upgraded in steps.
My system has had issues with updating the ARM and batteries from day one and I'm still trying to persuade GE to change or upgrade my Gen2 inverter to overcome this issue, but not holding breath.
