Mine too, getting the same locally on the app too which is very frustrating because I'm trying to edit my timed charge settings to stop charging from grid before OVO's power move hours
The main dashboard of the app works but not the battery page. Cloud dashboard is on and off

Driving me crazy too!
I can get to My Dashboard after over a minute of loading time, but I can't get to My Inverter, or on from there to Remote Control, which is what I actually want.
My inverter is hardwired to my router, and luckily we have Home Assistant running, so can control it from there.
There has been some pretty big internet issues today. Check the news...
M_J I work in IT services so this didn't escape my attention...a DNS routing issue on the east coast of the US wouldn't normally affect a local network connection between my app and the inverter unless the app is poorly coded to route traffic via the internet for inverter setting changes (which is what it appears to be)

One of the reasons I switched to Home Assistant. My kit on my network
I think the app needs to check you are a valid user, and does that via the portal - which I believe is hosted on AWS.
Not ideal - as having local access would be useful when the internet or parts of it are broken.
Another vote for home assistant here.
It could be worse, if the forum was also affected we wouldn't be able to complain. 😄
If you haven't got the inverter monitor app to manage the kit locally it's the best app and pretty straightforward to use when you have a functioning system.
The paid version allows you to set up schedules

Ohhh and home assistant is good too but a tad more complicated...
We are experiencing some instability in portal services sine 15.30. We are investigating now and will update.

Still down for me. No app or browser access to their Amazon hosted cloud. Although their status page doesn’t give indication of an outage unless the portal isn’t explicitly called out here.
https://givenergy.freshstatus.io/
Let’s hope the underlying issue is just denial of service and hasn’t give anyone customer level access to our inverters….
https://www.techradar.com/news/live/amazon-web-services-alexa-ring-snapchat-fortnite-down-october-2025
I’m starting the tech I use doesn’t like Mondays. Last week it was Vodafone, couldn’t access any thing for 48hrs

Let’s hope the next update for the app gives local access without the need for aws or other cloud services running.
Fortunately I have got the bbc basic inverter app on my phone and works without cloud.
Same access and sluggish issues for me too

Probably US staff in the 'Federal DNS Routing' office have all been laid off due to the lack of government funding...

But wait everything is now fixed or do you know different?

Mouton We are scaling our servers to handle to additional load and investigating whether the ongoing global AWS issues are the root cause of the instability.
Read the above as "We have No Idea What is Going on " and "We have NO Idea Hot to Fix It"
It's now working, both the app and web portal. Successfully logged in. No longer sluggish.
Still getting 504 timeouts here... .I guessed the problem earlier was due to AWS but that has apparently been "mostly" clear.
Amuses me in this age, taht everyone ends up going to the cloud because its reliable / scalable / has no one single point of failure... until a big problem that takes odwn half the internet in one single point of failure.
Still problematic off and on in my location.
TimI until a big problem that takes odwn half the internet in one single point of failure.
It's so Ironic. I was wondering if it had happened yesterday, whether or not all the F1 cars would have ground to a halt during the Texas F1GP 😃
portal is broken for me
my automation has been giving errors today
the givenergy status page says no issues and no history of issues.... hmmm
Zebsmattz the givenergy status page says no issues and no history of issues.... hmmm
What makes you think that anyone at GE is actually monitoring this situation? 🙂
duplada I naively thought it may be automated monitoring...
Oooops

Zebsmattz I naively thought it may be automated monitoring...
Like this ?
that is what I was looking at, yes
Zebsmattz That was the first place I looked too, hardly useful as usual.

Web portal is AWS based, this is part of it's URL:
eu-west-2.elasticbeanstalk.com/dashboard
Amazon had issues with its DynamoDB in US East I believe.
GE has shut it down now

Stolen from theregister:
"The issue with AWS is that US East is the home of the common control plane for all of AWS locations except the federal government and European Sovereign Cloud. There was an issue some years ago when the problem was related to management of S3 policies that was felt globally," Omdia Chief Analyst Roy Illsley told us.
He explained that US-EAST-1 can cause global issues because many users and services default to using it since it was the first AWS region, even if they are in a different part of the world.
Certain "global" AWS services or features are run from US-EAST-1 and are dependent on its endpoints, and this includes DynamoDB Global Tables and the Amazon CloudFront content delivery network (CDN), Illsley added.
"Although the impacted region is in the AWS US East region, many global services (including those used in Europe) depend on infrastructure or control-plane / cross-region features located in US-EAST-1. This means that even if the European region was unaffected in terms of its own availability zones, dependencies could still cause knock-on impact," he said.
"Some AWS features (for example global account-management, IAM, some control APIs, or even replication endpoints) are served from US-EAST-1, even if you're running workloads in Europe. If those services go down or become very slow, even European workloads may be impacted," he added.

I do have internal footage from Giv software dept last night:

Thank you to AWS for confirming where GE hold our data.
If you look at your power graph or data tables for yesterday, you should notice that there is no missing data (or at least no more than usual). I have checked mine and it's all there, post here and let us know if yours is different. Yet we know the AWS network suffered a severe outage yesterday. How can this be?
The answer is simple, only the front end runs on AWS (run by American company Amazon). The data is actually stored on Alicloud (run by Chinese company Alibaba). The "cloud" makes it very difficult to know where data and processing is physically located, and it can be mirrored in multiple locations, but it seems the AWS datacentre is in the UK and the Alicloud datacentre is in Germany.
Does this matter? Only to realise that the GE app/portal is not just a chain with a weak link, it is a chain made out of weak links. If monitoring and controlling your GE system is important to you, having local control through home assistant, my android app, or Richards app should be your priority.
Rubikcube
Deffo.
In Jan this year, we lost the internet for 2 weeks due to damaged Openreach cables.
GE had "improved" their app at some point so that HOME mode couldn't issue local commands anymore.
So the app could still display inverter data, but commands had to go via the cloud/internet to the inverter.
Luckily, the Android Inverter Monitor App came to the rescue.
Still sluggish for me, my wonderwatt controlled charge didn’t work last night and a test charge just now has failed via wonderwatt reporting an error getting system data or settings. On the GEN web portal everything showing except the my inverter card which won’t load. Hopefully it’ll resolve in time
Yeah, very very sluggish portal here... not good.

Unable to access the portal "Dashboard" and "My Inverter" cards. Times out on each attempt.
Just been using WhatsApp to chat to support. The team are trying to sort the issue. I hope they do soon as my system has been dead for 4 weeks and I now have someone looking at it...
Me too. PC App taking forever to load & all the side cards are showing a "Whoops" message. As an aside the Octopus App on my iPhone is also not loading. When activated it flashes up for a brief second & then disappears. Have rebooted the phone, cleared the cache, un-installed & re-installed the App all to no avail. Related?

The Dev Tools is suggesting that domain ingest.sentry.io may be a contributory factor to the issue.
The page appears to be hamering a missing domain and getting status 429 (Too Many requests)
Time for a Pi and HA
CGoode Mine Too, exactly the same.
On the flip side.
Connection is a bit hit and miss but overnight charge completed successfully and all appears fine.

And as of 11am 21st. Oct ... it's working, see how long before it goes off again 😏
I'm rather concerned about not being able to have control of my GE system when the cloud service goes down and am now looking for a controller app which I can use for local control which can enable me to do the timed charge/discharge etc controls and is easy to set up. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Read this thread higher up is a good recommendation
[unknown] Raspberry pi and home assistant
nigelr0 As long as your local WiFi/network are running you should be able to either use Home Assistant with GivTCP (and potentially Predbat to manage your charging schedule), or if you have an Android phone the excellent Monitor for GivEnergy Inverter app by our own @Rubikcube https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.rubikcube.invertermonitor
The latter could also be used for crude scheduling if you have an old Android phone or tablet lying around that you're not using (for scheduling to work it needs to stay on your home network) and could be a useful always on display for your family to know what the system is doing.
I personally use Predbat which manages our charging, incorporating predictions of future use, price, solar forecasts and carbon intensity information. I do find it useful that I have a local backup option in case of GivEnergy outage and find that comfortably worth the money.

Depends how techy you want to be.
For an easy life, the Android Inverter Monitor app (on Google Play store) works well if you pay the extra £10 for stats and control. Connects to your local LAN or even directly to the GE WIFI dongle (if you have one). No internet required. Allows you to set schedules too (a bit like wonder watt).
Or there is a PC based tool from the BBC Micro chap. Totally free but I can't remember where to find it (I have windows copy on my PC). Fairly simple to use and you can do the basic inverter commands.

Does the PC software have an "About" screen you could capture and post here?

I have these notes for the Inverter app by Richard Russell - invented BBC Basic:

miffy Very Helpful Thank You.
Thank you everyone for the very useful information, I shall go through it and find which one would work best for me. With cloud systems going down and hacking it'll be good to be able to control your own system on your own network. I was listening to the radio and a professor said it was bad practice to rely on cloud systems with no proper backup in place as it's asking for trouble with companies unable to operate and losing millions in revenue. And us being unable to control our GE systems. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Givenergy have a power cut and we had no control? Be interesting to see if Givenergy will take note and do anything about it?
Rubikcube
I agree. Thankfully I have your App and for the small fee I have full view control of my system even if the Givenergy dashboard and app is unavailable.
I too recommend those of us who do not wish to use home assist to do the same.
nigelr0 Be interesting to see if Givenergy will take note and do anything about it?
So the Question IS Who is Going To Start The Thread "GIVE US CONTROL OF OUR SYSTEMS GE OR ELSE"
Joking apart it is NO Joke not being able to Control Your OWN System. THE GE APP Should Allow this never mind third party Apps. GE need to drop the total control approach, we have just seen a demonstration of what that is like.
Support Local Control of Your System.
Rubikcube I agree with everything you have said. So I tried your app and paid the extra for control. Thank you.
duplada Added my voice. This needs fixing. No offence @Rubikcube - your app is great btw - but this should be provided by the provider in the first instance IMO with alternatives being available for preference, not a requirement!
I cannot access anything on my system. Tried resetting the dongle a number of times as that fell over in the process of the whole web fail. So I have no idea if the system is still functioning as set (charge overnight and eco the rest of the time).
Is there any value in contacting GE or do we just have to wait?
In the meantime does anyone have a magic wand to get my WiFi connection working again? The lights on the dongle don't respond like they should IMO. No change in flashing when holding the reset button for 15sec. Couple of times I have managed to reset it when plugged into a usb power port. This gives me access to the AP page on 10.10.100.254. But then I set the WiFi details and nothing appears to happen. When using the GE installer app to set the WiFi, the connection is very flaky and it might find it 1/10 times this making the process slow and so far impossible.
The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset from within the AP page.
MarkyG82 If I were you, I would try updating the dongle firmware per https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/2924-is-there-a-way-to-stop-the-wifi-dongle-making-its-own-wifi-network/50 which I personally found greatly improved our connection to our inverter.
You will probably need to switch off the 5GHz broadcast in your router temporarily until it is connected, even on the new firmware.
With the new firmware you can switch off the dongle Access Point once it is connected and just make changes accessing your Inverter's IP address with a web browser (you might want to reserve an address for it using your router so it isn't always moving addresses, this also helps with Local control in the app).
Here is a link to the latest Dongle Firmware be sure to follow the Readme file in the Download as you have to visit 2 different upload pages to complete the upgrade, one for the boot loader and one for firmware.
https://givenergy.co.uk/installer-resources/
Scroll down the page and look for HF21 Dongle Chipset Update
I'd like to thank those above re the dongle help. I am now back up and running. Just need to get it added to home assistant now and I'll have full control back.
Glad to be of assistance. I hope everything gets sorted with HA, no doubt @geoffreycoan will be able to help you with that.
